As Hāmonī leapt through the trees a voice behind her yelped
"Hey! Slow down Miss. Hāmonī !"
She turned around to face her good friend, and only traveling companion, Minto. Smiling slightly, she had a flashback about the day she had first met Minto, more than fifty years ago....****************************************************************
Hāmonī had been sitting by a brook in the forest a few days after her mother had died, wallowing in grief. She took out the little wooden pipe her mother had gotten her, and played a sad song. As the first notes poured out of the pipe, the birds stopped singing and stared at her. The song went:
The sun always sets
On unfinished regrets
Never to be fixed
Never to forgetThe crow always cries
With all of he lies
Made long ago
Which never diesThe sun always sets
On unfinished regrets
Never to be fixed
Never to forgetAs Hāmonī finished, a cat ran in screaming "I'M ON FIRE! I'M ON FIRE!" waving his two tails in alarm. Wait, twotails!
Sighing, she muttered "Water Slash." Water shot from her claws. She had three different attacks. The one she just used, Water Slash, wasn't very useful, unless you wanted to get something wet. Fiery Claw, her second one, shot fire from her claws . Her last one, Frozen Stab, froze something, shot ice shards, or made it snow.
The cat smiled, soaking wet, but entirely fire-free. "Thank you, Miss...."
" Hāmonī. And you don't have to call me Miss."
She took good long look at the cat. He had snowy white fur with brown speckles, two large fluffy tails, and bright minty green eyes, the same color of her robes. Finally she asked "And you are....?"
"Minto," he answered happily "I heard your playing. Could I hear some more?"
Hāmonī looked down at the small two-tail, who was smiling in pleasant anticipation. She thought for a few seconds, then thought of a song her mother had taught her.Sunlight, so bright
Sailing through the trees
Carried by a little breeze
Day by day, all is play
For you and me
Sailingthrough the treesSunlight, so bright
Reflecting on the water
For mother and daughter
Although the night is full of fright
We're safe with you
Reflecting on the waterSunlight, so bright
High up in the sky
I'm wishing I could fly
We could sail through the trees
and catch a little breeze
High up in the skyHāmonī looked at Minto. The little two-tail was looking up at her with nothing less than awe. "Beautiful!" he exclaimed "Simply Marvelous! Why, I haven't heard anything this good since my old master! Miss. Hāmonī, would you allow me to travel with you?"
Hāmonī looked at Minto, taken aback. "Well, I suppose..."
"Wonderful!" purred Minto "Now, let me show you something. Look here. I know your mother just died. Don't interrupt! I also know you have a brother. Well, why aren't you looking for him and moping around instead? If you find your brother, you could have at least one of your family." Minto looked at her curiously.
"I just.... don't want to lose someone else and have it be my fault." she said simply.
" Hmmm... how about we go and look for him, and if he dies its my fault. Good?"
"Deal." she agreed and they headed out in search of Inuyasha.****************************************************************
