Hāmonī settled down for first watch, shifting to get comfortable. When she had finally found a comfy spot, she trained her eyes on the tree line, eyes darting for any sound, any threat. Her concentration, however, was soon broken by a voice.
"Hāmonī ?"
Hāmonī sighed "What Yuri?"
Yuri came over to sit by her, got comfortable, and asked "What's the sacred jewel?"
Hāmonī was taken aback "You don't know what the sacred Shikon Jewel is?"
Yuri gave her a look and sighed "They don't... didn't.... tell us kids about anything important in my village." Hāmonī had noticed the verb change, was quietly sad for Yuri. It was hard to lose those you loved.
Yuri interrupted her thoughts with a poke "Are you going to tell me or not?!"
Hāmonī rolled her eyes and said "Fine. The Shikon Jewel is a powerful, marble-sized jewel which grants whoever possesses it with immense power. "
Yuri then gave her a questioning look "Why don't you want it then?"
Hāmonī looked down at her hands. "I've never wanted power. Justice, yes. But never power. It never... really appealed to me, I guess. My brother, Inuyasha, hated how humans and demons both disliked us. He wanted to become a full demon, so he could become one of them." she sighed "I've never really needed to fit in. If I can't convince someone to not shun me, then I don't bother with them. As for increasing my power... having too much power corrupts many. I don't want that."
She shook herself, and set her eyes on Yuri. "What I do want however, is for you to go to bed." After a few minutes of Yuri protesting, stern looks, and finally a flat out order, Hāmonī was back staring at the tree line, alone.
She thought about what she had said to Yuri. That girl was way too easy to talk to. She had just spilled a whole lot of info from that one question. Hāmonī shook her head. She was living and travelling with Yuri. They were going to learn about each other sooner or later.
After another 2 hours of staring at the trees, Hāmonī shook awake Minto (who was, once again, curled next to Yuri), and she herself went to sleep, her last conscious thought of her brother.

Sorry I haven't published in a while you guys. My house is very, VERY busy around Christmas and New Year's. So yeah. How do you like my little filler chapter? I thought I'd improve on the back story a little, get a little more into Hāmonī.
By the way, I'm thinking of finally setting up a schedule for all this. It's probably going to be Thursdays and Fridays, because they're my least busiest days. I'll update you when I figure something out.
