Wow, I've been so busy since the start of October. A lot has happened. Firstly, over the last few weeks the University has been asking for Course Representatives to represent the student body in each degree. I came across an email stating that nobody had applied to become the English and Media Studies course representative for the first year, so I applied and got the role by default, but I still think it is a great opportunity to represent the University and to also represent disabled people. What I find cool is that one of the other English representatives, the one for English Litriture, is also from Jersey, even though he was picked randomly from a few applicants. What are the chances that?
Additionally, to becoming a course representative with the responsibility to only attend a few meetings per year, as well as being given a new hoodie, I have also applied, and I'm going to meet somebody about it later this week, to become a visitor engagement volunteer at the Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth's Historic Dockyard. I went there as a child, and remember being fascinated by Henry the eighth's flagship worship, which sank in 1582, and wasn't brought up from the seabed until 1982, where the museum was later built around the restored wreckage. I also showed interest in volunteering at No6 Cinema, an independent cinema, also in the Historic Dockyard. As well as this, there is also an opportunity in volunteering to help with reading in a local primary school. These opportunities were curtesy of the University of Portsmouth Volunteering Fair 2017, opportunities of which I am taking full advantage. I look forward to starting these opportunities, giving back to the community, and enjoying myself as a result.
