Recently, I have been spending some time, once a week, with some friends who generously decided to teach me how to cook and prepare some easy meals so that eventually I will become even more independent than I have already become since coming to university.
The initiative is aptly named 'Meals on Wheels', and in the first week I tried my hand at putting a piece of bread in the toaster, and taking it out again once it was done. This wasn't as difficult as I imagined it would be, the bread being just slightly warm on extraction from the toaster. I then proceeded to learn how to cut it, using a knife and a fork, using the fork to hold the piece in place, and then using the knife to cut it. I then used the knife to spread chocolate spread on the toast.
It will take practice as with everything I learn as part of this venture, but I am willing and glad for this opportunity and I'm grateful for Jack and Joel, and the others who are enabling me to learn.
I enjoy the experience and found it fulfilling and will be interested to see what I have the opportunity to learn in the future.
