I wandered through the village looking for necessities. It's been so long since I've had it so easy, I almost forgot you could buy things. I'm more than a little excited. I walked through a clothing store and grabbed a bunch of new clothes regardless of if I thought I would actually wear them or not. I got a lot of strange looks; I assumed it was because of my haggard appearance, so I decided to change in the store.
My new outfit consisted of a long-sleeve black shirt with gaping armholes and a pair of white shorts that may or may not have been for males. I bought a pair of ninja sandals to go with the ensemble but they felt odd... I might not actually wear them, but today I'll give them a try. Although I felt bare without the Uchiha crest on my back, I felt almost normal with an outfit so similar to what I wore as a child.
I ran through the town market next looking for food. I grabbed lots of strange looking things that people told me were fruits and vegetables, along with lots and lots of meat. For the past five years I had an all-raw all-meat diet, so I wasn't sure if eating fruits and vegetables would sit well in my stomach, but decided to try them anyways. With my arms full, I made my way towards the village housing. I peered up at the apartment complexes thoughtfully.
The Hokage did say I could get an apartment, but it wouldn't be home...
I turned completely around and walked towards where I recalled the Uchiha compound being. I entered the gates of my old home, coming face to face with the ghost town I expected. I wanted to frown, to show some sign of sadness to see my home reduced so severely from its former glory but no expression came to my face.
It was much easier to pretend everything is fine than it was to deal with the actual turmoil of a massacre survivor.
Entering my house felt surreal. I didn't feel like the same little girl that ran home to tell her parents of the new jutsu she had taught herself. I put all my groceries away, noticing that I would need to buy ice for the chest where my perishables were kept, before finding my old room. The door to my parents' room was shut, and for that I was grateful. There's not a single piece within me that wanted to relive the experience behind that door.
I found my old room noting that the bed was most likely too small for me now. My room was practically bare except for a single tapestry displaying the Uchiha clan symbol on my wall, and the single window that allowed sunlight to frame the tapestry on the opposite wall. I didn't bother to put my clothes away, I wasn't sure if I wanted to stay here yet. I could always get an apartment if I decided I didn't want to live next to my parents' murder site.
Unsure of what else to do, and not wanting to stay in this building any longer, I decided to study. After all, the Hokage did say I would be taking a ninja exam tomorrow. I walked out of the building; it didn't feel like a home, and into the Uchiha training grounds on the West side of the compound. The Uchiha head household sat directly in the middle of the grounds, naturally, while my building was on the East side of the grounds, the gates on the North, and various other houses in the south.
I past the head household in my walk and gave it a glance. It didn't look lived in; it looked exactly like every other house in the compound... maybe a little more taken care of. But if I were an outsider, I would never have even known that anyone lived here.
I guess Sauske doesn't like to spend much time at home either.
Once I arrived at the training grounds I mentally made a list of all the jutus I knew. A quick practice of the phoenix flower and fireball jutsus assured me that I still performed them well. I attempted a transformation jutsu and noticed that it wasn't exactly perfect and could use some work. I performed a cloning jutsu and made six other clones that seemed perfect enough, or at least passable. Finally I attempted a teleportation jutsu, nothing happened.
