The next few days were... normal. After everything that happened between Sasuke and I it was a little unnerving for stuff to be so casual. I still felt weird fluttering in my chest and was pointlessly breathless whenever Sasuke was around. When Sasuke was away I kept thinking about him like what he might be doing and when I might see him next. Altogether that stuff was pretty easy to ignore... for the most part at least.
At nights when I was alone with my thoughts I would wonder why I don't think about Naruto or Sakura as much as I do about Sasuke. I would wonder what makes Sasuke so different from my other teammates. There has to be some reason why he's always on my mind and his presence provokes such a physical response from me. I guess its possible things could've changed since I haven't seen my team in a while, but as far as I know I don't become breathless around Sakura.
"Chidori!" Sasuke yelled, holding his right wrist with his left hand to stabilize the screeching chakra. Kakashi-sensei explained earlier that the lightning chakra condensed like that made the sound of a thousand birds.
Personally, I disagreed. Birds sounded nothing like that screeching menace. But even I had to admit that Chidori was a powerful jutsu. I wanted to say I was surprised that Sasuke could master such an intense technique in such a short time, but I wasn't really. Sasuke had always been talented and he worked hard on top of that. I didn't know a lot about Garra but from what Kakashi-sensei told me I knew that their fight would be good.
"Hey, Kakashi-sensei?" I called once Sasuke's stupid screeching stopped.
"Hmm?"
"When's the third part of the exam, anyways? Feels like we've been here forever." I turned my gaze to Sasuke for a fleeting second to see him wipe some sweat out of his way too long hair and onto his weird jumpsuit. I crinkled my nose in distaste. Sasuke insisted that his black jumpsuit was perfect for training and he never seemed to slow down from training long enough for me to try and chop off his hair.
"Well, let's see... the third part of the exam was a month after the second exam... we spent two weeks in Konoha then we've been here for..." Kakashi-sensei muttered to himself. Suddenly Sasuke's eyes went wide, then instantly morphed into a sharp glare towards his sensei.
"Oh... darn..." Kakashi-sensei remarked. "I think the fight is today." My jaw dropped and Sasuke's glare became icy.
"Don't tell me we missed his fight!" I yelled shooting up to my feet from my seated position by a tree. Kakashi-sensei waived me off casually.
"I'm sure it's fine... but we should probably hurry." Kakashi-sensei grabbed Sasuke, who was closest to him, and dragged him over to my side where he grabbed me as well. He then proceeded to channel his chakra. The wind picked up and a few leaves swirled around us.
"Where is that idiot?" Naruto's voice came through the wind tunnel. Suddenly the wind stopped and we stood in the arena stands, Naruto and Sakura in front of us.
"Sorry we're late." Kakashi-sensei apologized half-heartedly dropping his grip on either of us.
"Your name?" a proctor asked seeming more amused than annoyed.
"Sasuke Uchiha."
"Don't worry about the lateness, we pushed your fight till the end. You're on now." The proctor told him.
"I was beginning to think you weren't going to show because you're too scared to fight me!" Naruto bragged pointing an accusing finger towards Sasuke. I glanced towards Sakura with a furrowed brow.
"Sasuke is fighting Garra, not Naruto, right?" I whispered to her and she sighed and nodded with a smile.
"Relax you moron." Sasuke smirked. "I take it from your excitement that you won your fight?"
