The Breaking Point (SasukeXOC)

Team 7 met at the gate precisely an hour after our meeting with the Hokage, as ordered. Surprisingly everyone was on time, even Kakashi-sensei. I assumed we were all a little excited about our first C rank mission. With little instruction and some loud cheering from Naruto we began our mission.

I wondered for a moment why Sakura and Sasuke weren't as excited as Naruto to be leaving the village for the first time. Surly, they haven't been outside the gates before because they had no reason to.

"Kakashi-sensei is the Hokage really the most powerful ninja in the village?" Sakura asked suddenly causing Kakashi-sensei to launch himself into a full-blown lecture on ninja rankings. I listened for a while gaining the point of the lecture but quickly lost focus.

Tazuna grumbled from in front of me as he took swig after swig of his brown bag covered bottle. I wondered why he was so grumpy all the time. He must have a reason; no one becomes so mean randomly. I sighed giving up on my train of thought in favor of watching the clouds above me.

That one looks like the Village Hidden in the Sand symbol.

I froze in my step for a second, a bad feeling suddenly overwhelming me. My gaze snapped to my surroundings and I was instantly in high alert. I took a whiff but couldn't detect any unusual scents.

"Miyu, is something wrong?" Kakashi-sensei asked having been the only one to notice my quick snap to attention.

He watched me carefully causing me to believe he already knew what was wrong having sensed it as well. I drew a kunai from my pouch silently as the others watched the exchange.

"Not yet." I told him in a low murmur, the others having most likely not heard me.

"What's with this brat? Acting all crazy for no reason!" Tazuna complained as he took another swig from his drink.

In the blink of an eye two ninjas attacked having emerged from a puddle I hadn't noticed. Before any of us could react their chains surrounded Kakashi-sensei. With one mighty pull Kakashi-sensei splintered apart.

"Kakashi-sensei!" Naruto yelled out as Sakura screamed.

Bodies don't splinter. Kakashi-sensei must have used a jutsu. I could tell the others that our sensei is still alive, but their reactions will certainly help fool our enemies into thinking the strongest of us is already dead.

"One down," the first enemy ninja spoke.

"Four brats to go." The second finished his sentence. The ninjas broke apart and charged us.

Sasuke intercepted the first as the other headed straight for Tazuna. Sakura jumped in front of the bridge builder, protecting our asset. The ninja threw out the head of his chain weapon straight for Naruto whom stood frozen in fear. I growl escaped my throat.

I protect my own.

With speed I didn't know I possessed I stood in front of Naruto, Sakura, and the bridge builder having wrapped the chain around my forearm using my kunai to block the enemy ninja's own kunai aimed for a slash to my throat. The enemy and I stood in a stand off for a few seconds before we both became bored with that interaction.
