"Jace invited me to spend the day with him. I don't know what it could be, but he's not doing so well these days. The Impulse isn't completely out of his system just yet." I told Katsu. He nodded solemnly.
"That serum works very slowly so as not to hurt the patient. A smart move on Yuki's part, but in Johnny's case, time is of the essence." Katsu said. "At the very least, the marking on his eye is gone. Just make sure he keeps his composure and stays away from Arran at all costs. Mika and I haven't heard from him since we've lost our jobs, but that doesn't mean he's not looking for any of us."
"I understand but...what about you two? And the Kuroki twins?" I asked, looking at Mika. She offered me a grin, moving to the bookshelf behind her desk and feeling around, finally finding a book and tilting it, the whole thing rotating and revealing a bar; stools, drinks, the works. She calmly went behind it and started mixing drinks.
"We carried on just fine before we got paid by Arran. I wouldn't worry about it. Sure, Quinn might lose her mind from lack of shopping and fashion shows, but I think the rest of us will get by." Mika assured me. "Besides, we're mercenaries (name), it's our job to live in the shadows. Katsu, what's your poison tonight?"
"Sake." He said calmly. "Unlike you, I prefer not to get completely drunk and lie about never doing it again in the morning." She scoffed, filling up a shaker with ice, adding in the various ingredients as she mixed. She did a bunch of fancy tricks with it, throwing it up in the air and catching it, smiling as she did. If she was going to be an alcoholic, I'm glad at the very least that she's good at it.
"I like my alcohol fruity or strong enough to burn me. There's no in-between." Mika agreed. "Speaking of which, you want something (Name)? I can't let Hideki show me up with his Japanese hospitality." She strained her drink into a martini glass, plopping in an olive. She gave Katsu a glass and poured the sake.
"C-Can you make something virgin? I'm not much of a drinker." I asked shyly.
"I have seltzer water and a bottle of Sparkling Ice. How's that?" She asked. "You have a point. Even if you're not a drinker, that serum is gonna go haywire if you have alcohol. Tell you what: give me a second to look, and I'll find something that may taste just as good as if you were boozin', okay?" She dug around the counter as I continued to eat the Gyoza and Katsu sipped on his sake. It was hard to imagine the two were so close, despite being polar opposites. One was a drunk and a pothead, the other a chef and a connoisseur of the finer things. I guess opposites attract...
Like Jace and I.
I watched as Mika pulled out a large punch bowl, 2 liters of Dr. Pepper, ginger ale, cherries and pomegranate. She poured them all into the bowl and Katsu's eyes glowed while he mixed them with his telekinetic ability. When it seemed mixed enough, Mika pulled out a ladle and poured the contents into a glass, sliding an aril on the side of the glass.
"Dr. Pepper Punch with a Cherry and Pomegranate Twist." She said. "It's a hangover drink for me, but it's virgin, so drink up. I don't waste two liters of this succulent goodness for shits and giggles."
"Hey, Katsu, do you mind making something I can take back to Jace? I bet he could use the hospitality. I think he appreciates you guys more now that...w-well..." I said, drifting off.
"Now that Arran hates my guts and fired us all?" Mika said bluntly. "You can say it, it's not going to trigger us...anymore. Besides, we're back to business as usual. It's no skin off our backs."
"I'll always cook and be the morality that Mika is clearly missing, she'll always steal and make snide comments. Little has changed overall." Katsu agreed. "And I would be honored to make him something. It's good to see we have an ally in him."
