"If you're lucky enough to meet someone that you want to spend the rest of your life with, it should be cherished. The heart knows what it wants." I told Mika. "So, love at first sight it is." She faked a snore, causing my head to snap in her direction.
"What's so boring about that?" I asked, folding my arms. She shrugged, sinking into the office chair behind her desk.
"Nothing, I guess. Just...timeline after timeline I have to deal with this cliche question and answer. Fuck I wished I picked a better question..." Mika whined. "Anyway, how's it feel to have Kyren sink his teeth into this little story?" My eyebrow twitched. Did she really think this was fucking time for puns? And what the hell did she mean by "timeline after timeline"? Was she ruining someone else's life too?
"Really?" I asked. "Terrible puns?" Mika laughed, closing her eyes.
"Well, your current position in life fails to entertain me, so I have to provide for myself." She said. I sat down on the chair, laying back.
"Aren't you going to take me back now Mika?" I asked, looking up at her. She put her headphones back in and pulled out a comic book from her hoodie. It was written in Japanese, but from the cover it like like a boy's love manga.
"The fuck do I look like, Mr. Meeseeks?" She muttered to herself. "Just blink for like, three seconds." I stared at her for a minute, her eyes eventually sliding off the page and looking at me.
"You read yaoi?" I asked, pointing at it.
"They don't put abs like these in regular manga kiddo." She said, turning the book over to show me what looked like the intro to a sex scene. "Unless you want to sit here and read porn with me, just blink rapidly for like three seconds and you'll be back with your vampire boyfriend."
"He's not my boyfriend! He kidnapped me!" I cried out. Mika gave me a playful wink, standing up and tousling with my hair.
"What? Not into that?" She asked. "I hear vampires are into some kinky shit, so you'd better brace yourself." I rolled my eyes. I think I had enough of Mika for one night, so I just laid back, blinked as fast as I could...
Back at the abandoned campus?
I took a moment to try and get a hold of my surroundings. It wasn't raining anymore, and I was laying in a hammock hanging from the ceiling. Above me was a hole, the stars shining brightly above me. It had never seen them where I lived; all the light pollution blocked them from sight. The soothing crackle of a fire could be heard a little ways away, and Kyren's familiar hoodie had been laid over me like a blanket. It's night, he should be awake.
So where was he?
I wanted to cry for help, but at the same time, I didn't want to get on his bad side.
"K-Kyren?" I called out, carefully moving out of my hammock. As soon as my feet hit the floor, I immediately felt weak and nearly fell over, being caught by a pair of pale and strangely powerful pair of arms.
"You shouldn't move for a little while. Not until you know how my blood affects you."
I looked up and saw Kyren, the cracks in his face healed and a small smile on his lips. I narrowed my eyes at him as he picked me up and placed me back on the hammock.
"When did you give me your blood?" I demanded. He shrugged passively.
"While you were sleeping. Had I done it when you were awake, it would've hurt you a lot more than my fangs in your neck." Kyren told me. "But I take it you have questions. I'll answer them the best I can."
"Am I still human?" I asked quickly. He smiled and combed his fingers through my hair.
"Of course. I didn't want to turn you...not just yet." Kyren replied. "You're just as human as you were before you met me. Now I'm just sworn to protect you, and other vampires with respect won't hurt you."
"So it's like you've branded me? Like a cow?" I asked dryly. He laughed.
I wouldn't think of it like that now, I'd never think of you as cattle (Name).
I jumped and screamed. That was his voice, in my mind! What the hell Kyren?! I can't even have my mind to myself anymore!?
Not in the least. I'd need to know if you were thinking of someone else. Or if you were trying to escape. I'd catch you you know.
I growled at him. How dare he!
"If it's any consolation (Name), this is a two-way connection." He told me. "You can hear my thoughts too, if you really try. Though I wouldn't recommend it. I spend a lot of time trying to suppress them." Kyren moved to another hammock, getting in and laying down. A hole in the ceiling was above him as well.
"How old are you?" I asked, looking at him. He rubbed his eyes.
"32." He said blankly. "I'm stuck being 18 forever. Well, at least I can use my ID to buy booze. My birthdate won't freak people out." He sighed, folding his arms behind his head and looking up at the stars.
"They remind me that I'm not alone in the universe, you know?" He said quietly. "They say that the chance of us being alone in this massive universe is so minuscule it's virtually impossible. It's reassuring." Kyren turned and looked at me. Even though I had just gotten up, I felt exhausted. Was this his blood working throughout my body? I could barely keep my eyes open, and the sound of the fireplace was just so...relaxing. He smiled, seeing my eyes drooping.
"Your eyes are getting heavy. Your brain thinks your heart rate is slowing down because you're getting sleepy." Kyren explained. "You can rest here. I promise you, I'll keep you safe and sound. Not like I'm sleepy anyway. You'll probably wake up by sunrise, so if you see me still right here, I'll probably be really tired or asleep. Wake me up, would you?" I nodded and he laid on his back, sighing dreamily.
"Sweet dreams (Name)." He whispered.
Oh yeah, some dream I'll be having...
