(READER'S POV)
I woke up with a massive headache, my phone ringing next to me. I had hidden it from Roy; I was surprised he hadn't found it by now. I looked at the screen, seeing the familiar UNKNOWN written on it. I really shouldn't pick this up. Had I not learned anything from Simulacra or Sara is Missing? Against my instinct, I answered it.
"H-Hello?" I said, swallowing.
"Try not to sound so terrified (Name), it's unnerving."
I breathed a sigh of relief against the detached voice of Hideki Katsu, his somehow blank tone was comforting to me right now.
"Wait, where are you right now?" I asked. "Shouldn't you be watching me? To protect me from...I don't know, whatever Mika's pissed off about now?"
"You sound alive to me. That should suffice. Now then, I'm observing an interaction between Stryker and an old friend." Katsu said. "Would you like to join? I would think that you would like to see him again, one last time before he dies or at least this confrontation goes sour." I looked at the clock on my wall, shrugging. What else did I have to do?
"I guess so."
"Well, isn't that nice of you. Walk into the portal. Don't waste time." Katsu said. A portal suddenly appeared underneath me and I fell through, screaming most of the way down until I felt a firm hand over my mouth. In the blink of an eye, I was standing in something like a treehouse, Katsu's hand firmly over my mouth to prevent any screaming from getting out. He was staring out at a telescope, barely moving. With a sigh, he moved away from the telescope and let me go, letting me stand on my own two feet.
"I'll have to get this portal thrower repaired at some point." He said quietly. "If you weren't scared before, that did something, didn't it?" I nodded slowly, glaring at him. He returned to the telescope.
"What does psychokinetic and telepathic mean?" I asked.
"I have the supernatural ability to read and understand the complexities of human thought and explore the deepest machinations of the mind. I also have the ability to move the world and other objects around me with a passive notion." Katsu said calmly. There was a moment of silence between us. He probably had the realization I didn't understand a thing he was saying. He sighed.
"You waste time reading comics like Mika." He said. "Ever read or watched an X-Men movie?" I nodded.
"I have Charles Xavier's powers." He finally said, leaning against the tree.
"That's so cool!" I said excitedly. "I wish I could do that."
"It's psychological torture. I would never wish it upon another living creature. Having this power was the destroyer of my childhood." Katsu said. "But enough of me. Are you feeling alright? Temperature okay? Has he hurt you at all?" Flashes of yesterday when he rammed his fist into the wall came to mind and I reeled back at the thought of it. Katsu held his head, breathing in sharply.
"Ah...I see. He hasn't hurt you, but he's gotten increasingly more volatile." He said. "He may not have harmed you, but he may have harmed someone else. I won't be able to get into his head from such a distance."
"What's he doing out here anyway?" I asked. His eyes fell and he sighed loudly.
"(Name), do you have any connection to Johnny Ringo?" He asked, finally looking up at me.
"He was a classmate. He was kind of a loner, and he really didn't talk to anyone...but me..." I gasped, moving him aside and looking through the telescope. Lo and behold, it was Johnny and Roy, but they seemed to be just fine, like they were just talking. Johnny had his Polaroid camera around his neck, his satchel full of notebooks and other film equipment around his body. He looked uncomfortable, but that was expected. Roy just leaned against a tree, a smile on his face as they talked. I breathed a sigh of relief.
"They're just...talking." I said, looking back at him. "What's the big deal?"
"Even from a distance, I know something's wrong." Katsu told me. "Perhaps it's the intuition of an assassin, but there's a deadly air here. They say the best of us know the stench of death before someone dies."
"Impressive." I noted.
"But...how can he kill that which is already dead?" Katsu mused. "Clearly, you know of his occult habits, don't you (Name)?"
"He has a lot of occult stuff in his locker, and Leviathan's cross on his necklace." I said, thinking about it. "Why? What gives?" Katsu sighed, adjusting his glasses. It was like he was hiding something from me. Before I could question him about it, his phone vibrated in his pocket, and he fished around for it, finally putting it up to his ear.
"Mi-chan, we're rather busy. Could you call us l—oh, I see. That does put a difficult spin on things, doesn't it?" Katsu said. "She's fine. I haven't left her side, per your orders. What's our next move?"
"What is it?" I asked, looking over at him.
"...are you sure? That's rash, even for you." Katsu said, ignoring me. "If you insist. Right. I'll see you." He hung up his phone, and just as he did, Roy raised a gun to Johnny's face. I nearly screamed, but Katsu must have anticipated this, covering my mouth firmly with his hand. I kicked and tried to fight him, but he had me in place.
"Don't be stupid. It will take more than just a bullet to kill him." He whispered. "As far as we know, this could be a bluff. My job is to protect you, not him. Keep. Your. Mouth. Shut. Understand?" I nodded, feeling him finally let go. Was there really nothing we could do?
*~STRYKER'S POV~*
"You don't want this fight. I don't want to have to hurt you." Johnny said, staring me straight in the eye.
"Do you think I'm afraid of you, you emo shit? I could put a bullet in you, right here, right now!" I shouted, moving closer. "I've been shooting people all week man, what makes you think I'll stop now?"
"What makes you think you can actually kill me?" Johnny asked.
"You bleed like the rest of us, it shouldn't be that hard." I told him.
"On your knees. Now." I commanded, loading the chamber. He laughed, stashing away his camera in his bag.
"I kneel to no mortal, and definitely not you." Johnny said. "I only have one master. I swear my allegiance to him. But you? You must be compensating for something."
"I'm not asking for your obedience. I'm asking for your death."
*~READER POV~*
Katsu quickly turned me away just as a gunshot pierced the air, covering my mouth and eyes. I could hear him breathing heavily, even beneath the mask. The situation even made him uneasy.
"Where the hell did a mere mortal get Holy Weapons...?" I heard him mutter. "This is undoubtedly bad, worse than bad. (Name), I have to take you back to where he his hiding you, for now. As always, we'll retrieve you at night. Please, stay safe, and make no mention of the events you saw here." He opened a portal, leading me through. I could see the worry in his eyes.
"Hideki...is everything okay?" I asked. His fists clenched for a moment, then he shook his head.
"Mika may be way in over her head at stopping this anomaly at this point. The doomsday clock has jumped forward. If you get to her before me...say, 'Prometheus'. She'll know what it means."
