Everything Happens for a Reason- A Jemi Love Story

Episode 20

Joe stands up off the bed he used to sleep in every night unzipping the guitar case before bring out an old looking guitar covered in various stickers of bands he used to like but now when he looks back they are actually terrible bands. He runs his fingers over the body all the memories of playing this ancient instrument coming back into his mind not helping but smiling which makes Demi and Scarlett mirror it once they see it. That was the moment he knew he wanted to do it again, he wanted to pick that guitar up and strum his fingers over the strings in a tune he remembers, a tune he had wrote himself and a tune in which is very familiar to his ears.

"You want us to leave?" Scarlett questions and Joe shakes his head. He makes his way over to the draw where he knew his guitar picks would be. He reaches in the draw taking his old red favourite in-between in fingers Demi and Scarlett's eyes never leaving him. Joe picks up the guitar sitting on the end of the bed. He holds it in his arms in the correct position before beginning to strum the guitar pic over the strums in the tune he had in his mind. Demi and Scarlett cheer beginning to dance around like lunatics Joe smiling once he opens his eyes again watching them not even having to look where his hands are. He's a natural even after nearly six years of never picking the instrument up.

"Is that a guitar I hear?" They hear Nick and Kevin soon appearing at the door smiling when they see their brother finally playing guitar again.

"Don't stop!" Nick commands and Joe shrugs carrying on the continuous tune. Eventually Joe stops making everyone groan.

"Why'd you stop?" Demi complains.

"That tune is annoying now." He states and they laugh.

"Then play something else." Scarlett states handing Joe the guitar, he just places it back by his side making them all groan again.

"I'm not your guitar monkey." Joe states standing up placing it back in its case along with his favourite guitar pick and the rest. Joe smiles when she feels Scarlett peck his lips, he takes her hand in one of his while the other one has hold of his guitar case.

Joe and Demi were the only ones up at 11pm, Scarlett and Wilmer allowing tiredness to defeat them going to bed not that long ago. Joe's guitar hadn't left his side since Demi and Scarlett had managed to convince him to start playing but at that moment he has Sadie in his arms feeding her a bottle Demi had just made. They're switching her on and off breast and formula, formula so they know that she is getting a decent amount of feed a day. 

"How many kids do you want?" Demi questions, she can see him marrying Scarlett and them having more kids. She can especially see him with a son.

"I don't know really, I always imagined myself with a house full of kids." Joe confesses and Demi smiles imagining it in her mind.

"Did you plan to have Sadie?" Demi asks Joe shaking his head.

"She came as a complete surprise, Scarlett had forgotten one day to take her pill discovering a month later that she was pregnant. We planned to start after we got married." Joe explains.

"She looks a lot like you." Demi tells him as if he hasn't seen his own daughter. Joe laughs tiredly knowing it won't be long until he also goes to bed. Demi however is still lively as ever.

"Do you like never run out of energy?" Joe questions making her giggle shaking her head.

"Then again after a concert I get pretty tired but if I haven't done much in the day I'm not." Demi explains taking Sadie from Joe so she can burp her. Joe allows her smiling when his daughter lets out a tiny burp. Demi lays her back in Joe's arms awing when she smiles as if she is thanking them both but tiredness soon defeats her allowing her eyelids to droop closed Joe and Sadie hoping for a couple of hours. Joe and Demi talk for a little bit longer Sadie asleep in her dad's arms before they go to bed themselves.
