Everything Happens for a Reason- A Jemi Love Story

Episode 22

"Hello Demi, this is Robertson hospital speaking." She hears a quite a young receptionist speak clearly chewing on her gum like she doesn't even care about how professional she sounds over the phone. Demi rolls her eyes before speaking again.

"Is everything okay?" She questions mentally preparing herself for what she is about to hear, she hopes it's somewhat good but she knows if it's the hospital it won't be. That is something she can guarantee.

"Your friends Joe, Scarlett and their baby Sadie have been in a car crash, would you please come over and a doctor will explain the details?" She questions and Demi nods as she answers.

"Of course, I'll be over as soon as possible." She states before hanging up the phone. She sits back on her seat for a couple of moment thinking about what condition any of them could be in. Sadie is only three months old, she shouldn't have to go through anything like that at this age. She should be a young happy baby with both of her parents fit and healthy ready for her help when she grows older. She stands up slipping on a random pair of shoes grabbing her car keys heading out of the tour bus locking it behind her. She climbs into her car reporters going crazy asking questions as they snap a picture of her clearly seeing she is crying gently. She just doesn't want to know what state her friends are in, if anything were to happen she wouldn't know how to react.

Demi pulls up at the car park not caring that she is taking up two spots, she is just desperate to know what the news is. She locks her car before climbing out and rushing into the hospital to get away from the reporters. She makes her way over to the reception desk standing in the small queue until it's her turn to be seen to. She just thinks while she is waiting for her turn thinking about anything but the crash, she doesn't want them to be hurt, she just wishes they are okay and healthy.  She stands against the desk placing her hands gently on the wood.

"I was told to come down about my friends being in a car crash?" She questions and the receptionists nods not being the same one that called her.

"I will just go get the doctor." She states before wondering off. Demi trying her best not to think about what the outcome could be, either of them could be seriously injured or even worse dead and she doesn't want to lose any of them, she had become quite close to them over the past couple of months and thought she'd be able to see Sadie grow up and go to Joe and Scarlett's wedding. The truth now being there may not even be a wedding.

"Hi Demi, follow me." A women says in pink scrubs covered slightly by a white lab coat she looks as if she is about in her late thirties or even late forties but all Demi can think about is the fact that she looks as if she knows a lot about medical . Demi nods following the doctor  through the snake like corridors before they stand outside a door, she motions Demi to sit down on the chair provided as she takes a seat next to her.

"A-are they okay?" Demi stammers beginning to get really worried by the second.

"I'll explain each separately," She begins. "Sadie is perfectly fine, she has a couple of scratches and bruises as the car didn't hit her side. Joe is in the worst condition as the car did hit his side, he has had to have surgery to fix his shattered arm and we've had to reduce him into a coma until his condition gets better." She explains Demi wanting to ask a question.

"But he will be fine?" She questions.

"He should be within a couple of days if not a week," She answered then carrying on. "Scarlett on the other hand is alright but we run some tests to make sure, has she been having any symptoms recently?" She asks this time Demi thinking back before answering.

"Um not really, why?" She inquires worried for what she is about to say.

"Scarlett has cancer." She states turning Demi into shock beginning to cry a little bit harder, that moment she doesn't know what to say or do.
