Everything Happens for a Reason- A Jemi Love Story

Episode 23

Demi wipes her eyes as there was a pause in the room as if the world had just stopped for her but it didn't. That is something she did not expect to come out, it was probably the last idea she'd ever have thought of. Demi stays silent for a moment and the doctor allows her to as she can get her head wrapped around everything. Demi woke up this morning thinking today would be a normal day but it's far from it. She could lose her boyfriend which is her decision but she could also lose one of the only friends she's become close to so quickly. It just doesn't seem like the right situation to happen, she just wants to wake up from the nightmare she is living. Shame it isn't one.

"Will she be okay?" She questions trying her best not to become hysterical.

"I'm afraid not, the cancer has spread too much to try and save her, I'm very sorry." She apologises Demi shaking her head not believing what she is hearing. The doctor takes her hands in a comfort, something Demi was craving very much.

"How long has she got?" Demi asks nearly coking on herself from stopping herself crying.

"We think about three months, she will only be in here for a week then she can go back home on strict rest. The problem with the cancer she started out with it's hard to catch early because the symptoms don't start coming through until it's nearly too late to cure but in Scarlett's case she just didn't show any at all." she explains and Demi nods taking it all in. Demi asks the questions needed before the doctor moves onto another issue.

"Scarlett said that you were Sadie's godmother so could you look after her for the week that she is here?" She questions and Demi nods her head quickly.

"Yes of course, I presume she wouldn't be able to breast feed anymore anyway." Demi states and the doctor nods.

"If you need any help just ask for Dr. Jones and I will help you okay?" She questions and Demi nods thanking her.

Demi walks out the bathroom after calming down. She had just gone to see Joe not knowing what kind of condition he would be in but she knew as soon as she walked in. He doesn't look good, looks as if he is on his death bed but the doctor assured her he would be fine. He just looked so lifeless and his expression as if he was in pain, certainly didn't look like he was sleeping like some people have said, more like he was asleep but having a bad dream. Demi makes her way into Scarlett's room which was next to Joe's after knocking.

"Oh hi Demi." Scarlett greets sitting up on the bed.

"Hi Scarlett, you feeling okay?" Demi questions as she takes a seat down on the chair next to her bed not quite sure what to say to her.

"Okay I guess." Scarlett says through a sigh. "How's Joe?" She questions back Demi sighing this time.

"Doctors said he would be fine but he doesn't look good at all." Demi explains and she nods looking down at the bed not believing her life will be coming to an end soon.

"Can you promise me something?" Scarlett asks and Demi nods quickly.

"Sure anything." Demi replies and Scarlett sighs sitting up more on the bed again.

"Be Sadie's female role model and her mother figure, you've been through so much before and I want her to grow up with someone like you to look up to. I want her to achieve things you have even though she may have some bad days. I know Joe will take good care of her but I still want her to have that motherly bond with someone." She insisted letting a tear escape her eyes rolling softly down her cheek before landing on her shirt.

"I promise." Demi says simply matching her crying.

"Thank you, I just don't want to leave." She confesses beginning to cry a little harder.

"I don't want you to either and I know other people who don't." Demi assures as they both wonder for the future.
