"Please, don't go, Honey." Her teary eyes stared at me in sadness.

I sighed softly, zipping my blue duffel bag that was full of my clothes and things. "Bertha, I'm sorry. I can't." I shook my head weakly. "I can't go through this every day. It's enough for me."

She choked a sob. "But, where will you be staying?"

I looked at the ground in response. I knew that I could never escape this question.

Maybe, I should have just run away without telling anyone.

After listening to Killian's telltale story, I finally decided to leave this pack for good. This was a big decision for me since I realized that the constant heartbreak and heartache would make me die in melancholy eventually. I could not bear to protect myself every time I fell, and I would not definitely include Bertha in my problem, even though she knew what I had gone through.

Besides, this ugly duckling did not have a heart to make the male swan stay on the ground to mourn over his lost happiness. Let him fly.

"I still don't know, Bertha. But," I trailed off, "I think I'll go to the city."

Bertha gasped aloud. "W- What? The city?"

I managed to give her a shy nod.

"Oh, Moon Goddess," she shrieked, clutching her chest tightly. I jumped to her side and patted her back slowly. "The city? As in, mingling with humans?"

I gave her a weak nod again, unable to let my voice out.

Bertha inhaled a big breath and said softly, "Honey, you've never met humans before."

I tilted my head in confusion. "Are they cruel, too?"

"No, Honey," she shook her head. Her ponytail grey hair followed her motion. "Some of them are cruel, but some of them not. Just like us." She caressed my cheek softly. "But, they can't turn into wolves, that's all."

The bulb dinged inside my mind as I came to realize something. "So, they are just like me?"

"Well, basically, yeah."

The corner of my lips lifted up into a soft smile. At least, I won't be the odd one. "I think I'll mingle better, then."

She sighed a big time. Her wrinkled hand stopped caressing my cheek instantly as she looked down to the floor. "That might be true. But, I just can't help but get worried." Her eyes suddenly widened as saucers in horror. "W- Wh- What if someone kidnaps you? What if you get lost and never come back? What if... What if..."

I cupped her aged face in my hands, bringing her eyes to meet my assuring gaze. "I'll be fine, Bertha. I have this strong feeling that I'll be fine." I exhaled softly. "Please, Bertha. I can't live here knowing it will burden him. And, now, the whole school know about this. He'll be ashamed for the rest of the senior year."
