"Please, Nana." I set my eye to puppy mode, hoping that Nana would be lured into it.
Nana stared at my face for a moment, before she decided that her twiddling fingers were the most interesting ones of all.
"Nana, please," Lou begged softly. Her eyes looked straight to Nana's knees as she was sitting on the floor. "Let us help you with the debt." She put her head onto Nana's knees.
"I- I-" Nana's voice quivered as I waited for her next words with hopeful heart.
"Nana," Kayla's signature soft voice that could lull you to a beautiful dream instantly grabbed Nana's attention to Kayla's brown emotionless eyes. "We understand your fear of losing us." She wrapped her arm around Nana's slightly shivering body. "And, we know that's because of our disabilities. But, it doesn't mean that we can't help you, dear Nana. We can't see you like this, working from the sun rises until the sun sets every day whereas you could spend your time at home."
"Kayla's right, Nana," I spoke out. "Our fear of seeing the little kids losing their home is greater than any fears we have right now, Nana. We can definitely do this. We can help you out from the debt." I finally sat down next to Lou, so that I could look up to Nana's grey orbs. "Please, Nana, have a little faith in us. Let us help you."
"I...s...," Pam said, glancing down to the dent in the wooden floor. Her brown eyes were full of tears by now, threatening to fall down any second.
Lisa just kept silent while massaging Nana's left arm tenderly, casting her sad blue eyes to the movement of her delicate hands.
"I- I- I'm just afraid that s- something bad w- will happen to you all." Nana sobbed, placing her head to Kayla's shoulder. "Y- You're just like my own kids. I can't bear to lose you all." Tears were now running down her red face, begging for us to understand her fear.
I'm sorry, Nana. We love you so much that we do this.
"Nana." Kayla rubbed Nana's back in a motherly way. "We can't lose you, too. You're just like our own mother that we never have, even better. Please understand that it's so hard for us to see you struggle alone."
"Even for me, you already become my mother, Nana," I quietly sobbed into my hands as tears were swiftly flooding my left cheek. Talking about parents and my Nana was taking its toll on me, reaching the goal to make me a mess again. I swallowed down the lump in my throat and continued, "And I don't have a heart to see my dear mother sweating her body and soul to work while I'm sitting idly at home, waiting for my mother to be back. How can I?"
Sobs were shaking Nana's body uncontrollably as she looked down at me. Her grey orbs were penetrating my soul in a gentle way. She then cupped my face between her tiny hands. "But- But I'm still healthy as a horse. I can work a little more until our debt is fully paid."
"Nana, please." Lou shook her head repeatedly, refusing the idea that Nana was still healthy. "Remember that time when we went to the city together?" Lou looked up at Nana's face, trying to ring a bell in Nana's head. She slightly sniffled. "We should go to a hospital because Nana suddenly fainted," Lou told me. Her cheeks were red due to the crying moments we had now. "And, the doctor said that it's due to the high blood pressure. She's too stressed."
