Sweet Duncan

Sweet Duncan.

I knew I should listen to Granddaddy Paul well when he was commenting on 10-year-old sweet tooth of mine: 'Something sweet might stab you in the future.'

"Do you happen to know the leader of the hunters, Honey?" Bertha put her hand on her chest, waiting impatiently like a mother who caught her child of doing something back and waited for an explanation in an instant. "Because he saw you like he knows you."

I sighed softly while playing my fingers on my lap nervously. The comfort of the bed under my butt did not ease any nervousness and paranoia out of me. The striking blue orbs combined with the devilish smirk he had on his face were like a nightmare came to life. The hard expression in his face made me close the curtain in a flash and jumped to the bed like I was being electrocuted.

Was he the same Duncan whom I had a little-little-little crush on?

Bertha still threw me an accusing stare, which successfully created a flashback inside my mind. The image of the warm wind caressing my head while Duncan and I were laughing freely at the funny expressions of those livestock when they chased the petals of dandelions flying in the air was invading my mind beautifully. It was a beautiful memory; the time when I decided that I should not dwell into the past for so long, and rather embracing the bright future ahead of me.

But, I guessed he was not quite picturing that moving on was a great thing to do now that he actually was... someone else.

"I knew it! There's something I don't like from that guy!" Selena's hard voice made my mind flow to those runaway days when she would throw tantrums whenever I thought about him. Or, laughed with him. Or, talked with him. Or, even thought that probably he was the key to my success to gain the bright future. "And, now, I have a really bad feeling. Like something's gonna happen. So, please! Please! Let's help our mate!"

"So? Care to explain?" Bertha's voice brought my attention back to the situation I was in. I looked down to my fingers that now had stopped playing on my lap, but rather trembling slightly.

"Um..." I cleared my throat, clearing the havoc that clogged the pipe. "He's... He's my friend. I met him when I ran away. I don't know him that long, but he... He helped me to forget about Killian." I closed my eye, feeling hard to fill my lungs with air. "But," I opened my eye to meet her gaze. "I swore I didn't tell him that I'm a werewolf. And, that my pack is Red Moon Pack. I swore, Bertha."

Maybe, what they said was right. Sometimes, the people you meet for seconds could be the most memorable.

Well, in this case, memorable since he broke into my pack.

She sighed, pulling my body to her warm embrace. "I know, Honey. I know. I believe you." She tightened her hug. "I bet he used a dirty trick to know our location."

"Yeah, he should be!"

I immediately shivered while pulling out from my realm of happiness. My heart beat so fast that I realized I had been so close to the one that would probably make my pack a mess. Fear started to monopolized the whole sector of my mind and heart, while mentally blaming myself for this situation that—I admitted—I caused. "So, now, what should we do, Bertha? We can't just stay here. Even Luna Ellie is out there now. It feels so wrong to stay here."
