"No, I'll be fine without it," I lied. Ever since I smelled the strong scent of blood fill the hallway, I've been craving some. It's disgusting what a simple scent could to a vampire. She sat down on my lap and pushed her brown hair away from her neck. I can hear blood coursing through her veins as she held onto me. "I can't forgive myself for this," I told her.

I bared my fangs then sank them into her neck. The pain began to subside as I felt my wounds began to heal. Vampires are not supposed to get hurt as easily as I did. They are supposed to be strong as long as they continue drinking blood. I haven't been drinking any until now, so that explains why I can't deny her.

"That's all for now, Taylor," Brenda said as she pulled away from me. I stopped and wiped my mouth with my arm, considering I don't have a shirt. I grabbed the first aid kit and pulled out a band-aid. I placed it on her neck then kissed it.

"Why do you continue to do this for me?" I asked her, already knowing the answer.

"Because I love you, Taylor. Nothing will ever change that." Those three little words that everyone wants to hear makes me feel great, but they don't belong to me. Brenda deserves someone normal, human, just like her.

I sighed. "I'm not... Good enough for you."

She shook her head no. "Your perfect. If someone says otherwise, then they are the ones whose wrong," she reassured me.

"I could accidentally kill you," I told her.

"I trust you with my life and soul," she said.

Just as she was about to kiss me, Hailey walked through my front door and into my room. "I hope I'm interrupting something," she said as she sat down on the desk chair.

Brenda climbed off my lap and sat down next to me. "What's going on, Hailey? Don't you know how to knock before entering someone's home?" I told her, a bit annoyed.

Ever since we were kids, she's always been like this. She somehow decided I was her best friend in the entire world. We're partners when it comes to jobs with the Association, but outside of it, we go on with our separate lives.

"Yes, I do, but since this is your house, I figured I could just walk in." Brenda stood up and walked to the door.

"Maybe I should go. You two might want to talk about stuff I have no business in knowing," she said as she reached for the door knob.

I took her hand in mine, "don't go, please. It's alright if you hear."

Hailey nodded then sat next to me. "Your welcome to stay and learn a thing or two. We'll be happy to tell you," Hailey told her as she held my arm and rested her head on my shoulder.

I figured Brenda was getting a different idea, so I pulled my arm away from Hailey. Brenda shook her head no, refusing my request, and waked out of the room. I waited until the front door closed before turning to Hailey.

"Why would you do that? You probably made her think we're going out!" I told her as I tried to hold back my anger.

She shrugged, "oh well. It's not my fault that she's so gullible. I was only messing with her." I glared at her as I stayed silent. "Anyways, Parker handled that incident with those three idiots for you, but there's some rumors going around school that your the one who killed that kid, Joshua... Something," she told me nonchalantly.

I sighed, "let them believe what they want. Everyone in our class knows I didn't do it."

She rolled her eyes, "do you really think the police would listen? It's your word against your master's. She hasn't claimed who killed him yet, but everyone else only saw a dark figure." Dark figure? I guess I am the only one who fits the profile in the school, but could it also be another vampire? Ann-Marie didn't say anything, for once, about joining her side. Was she really scared?

"Is this all?" I asked her.

She nodded, "just about. When are you going to come back to headquarters? Everyone's been dying to see you."

I shrugged, quite unsure about it myself. H.Q. doesn't look like much on the outside, but as soon as you walk in, traps have been set up over the door in case monsters break in. Inside, there's about ten different hallways, each with about fifteen different doors, and not to forget the tunnels underground where all the monsters are kept locked up. It's pretty homey for hunters, if I do say so myself. After that, my cell phone rang, showing Jason's number on the screen. I flipped it open and answered his call. "What's going on, Jason?" I asked him.

"I have some more information about the kidnapping. Ann-Marie doesn't want to wait until Wensday, she wants me to get her when the time is possibly "right"." What?

"That could be any time throughout the week. She's trying to mess with my head," I told him. Ann-Marie knows I wouldn't stop searching for Brenda if she disappeared. She also knows that she could get killed for kidnapping a human.

"She also says "more shall die if you wish to disobey. Any ideas what she means?" he asked.

Unfortunately, I do. "She's still angry that I made her look bad in front of two important vampires in the vampire society. They wanted to use me for their army of something." Hailey looked like she wanted to laugh.

"They wanted a disobedient guy like you? Apparently, they know nothing about you," she said. I could practically see the Cheshire cat grin on Jason's face as he agreed with Hailey. "Thanks for the update. I got to go," I told him as I rose to my feet. The phone clicked as I turned back to Hailey. "Come on," was all I told her as I walked out of the room and out of the house.
