Brenda
Before Taylor left to his new case, he led me to the lobby. It was there where I saw my father in the worst condition I've ever seen him in. He was standing by Trey, looking at his son with melancholic eyes. He was saying something to Trey, but I only heard "don't fool this man. My sweet daughter was taken from me and I don't think I could handle a lie."I grabbed the back of my dad's shirt and pulled it like I used to do as a small child to gain his attention. "Dad?" I asked a bit shyly.
He turned to me and quickly pulled me into a hug. "Brenda! Is it really you," he asked as tears began to stream down his face. "Oh god. Don't ever disappear on me again. Please... If something bad were to happen to you, I wouldn't know what I would do."
I smiled as tears of joy rolled down my cheeks. "I missed you, dad. I promise not to disappear again," I said as I looked up at him. "I was so scared. I thought I was going to be killed, but this necklace saved me." I showed him the necklace Taylor had given me a while back and looked up at him. "Taylor gave it to me. He didn't tell me it was a protection charm when he gave it to me though."
Dad examined it closer before leaving it alone. "I'm just glad your safe. Is there any word on Jason?" he asked me.
"He died trying to protect me," I answered him.
"That's not true," Taylor said as he walked back into the room, still dressed in his suit and tie. "Well in a way that is, but not really. "We turned to him as he walked over to Trey's side.
"What do you mean not really?" dad asked.
"He means that Jason has been turned. He's a vampire now," Trey answered instead.
"He's a vampire? Why didn't you tell me?" I asked, looking at Taylor.
He shrugged, "I figured Trey was going to tell you."
I turned to Trey, who immediately held his hands up in surrender. "I forgot about it when I heard you were found," was all he said. "Besides, you can't see him anyways. He's untamed."
I hit him on his arm before saying "he's not an animal, so don't talk about him like he is."
Taylor grabbed my arms and pulled me towards him. He looked me in the eye before saying "he has been reduced to a blood-thirsty beast. The only way to see him is to wait for him to master his training."
I blushed as my dad pushed him away. "I know what you are, Taylor. Don't think I will let you get anywhere near her, you filthy vampire!" Dad warned.
Taylor took a step back, "sir, I happen to be a tamed vampire. I won't attack anyone if I smell blood." I can tell by the look in dad's eyes that he didn't believe him.
"If a vampire attacked my daughter, I'll make sure none gets near her again. That does include you, Taylor."
Turning back to dad, I said "don't be like this with him. If it weren't for the necklace he gave me, I could have been dead." With that, dad walked away.
"Your father hasn't changed a bit. I have been locked away too, but he only tried to kill me," Taylor said as he took my hand. "Come with me. You look like you can use some rest" I followed him into another large hallway. He led me past a few doors, each with names of different hunters on the doors. We finally made it to a door with only one name. Taylor. He pulled out a key from his pocket and unlocked the door.
The room itself was bare. Absolutely nothing was hung on the walls. The bed was pushed to the wall. The only personal item Taylor had was the picture of all three of us on our first day of freshman year, standing in front of our high school. Like always, Taylor wasn't smiling in the picture.
"So this is where you kept this," I said as I turned to him. "I though you lost it."
He shook his head no. "I don't want to forget the life we all used to have. Especially because back then, we were all human."
I placed the picture down and yawned. I took his hand and sat down on his bed. He sat down beside me, and watched as I cuddled closer to him. "If I fall asleep, will you leave me alone?" I asked him.
"No. I lost you once already, I won't leave you again," was his answer. I smiled at him before closing my eyes.
I dreamed about him again. That bad vampire. I was trapped, and he was trying to bite my neck. I tried to stop him, tried to push him away from me. Instead, he whispered into my ear, "this is the only way for you to live forever with him. You won't have to worry about getting sick, or even dying. I will grant you immortality." For some reason, my body relaxed enough for him to pull me into him, and bite into my neck. Taylor appeared almost out of thin air, his skin paler than I've ever seen it. He opened his mouth and shouted out my name as I was dropped to the ground. Taylor ran over to me, glancing up at the beast who did this. I tried to speak, tried to get him to understand, but found that my voice wouldn't come. I didn't realize that Taylor had laid me back down until he said "I swear to God I'll kill you. You killed her and replaced her with a beast!" I watched as they charged for each other, ready to fight to the death.
I don't know what happens next because the next thing I knew, I shot up from the bed. My heart was beating fast as I realized where I was. My forehead was damp with sweat as my eyes met Taylor's.
"Are you alright? Did you have a nightmare?" he asked as he sat up. As the adrenaline began to subside, I nodded.
"Yeah, I did. Why didn't you wake me?"
He watched me carefully as he said, "I tried. You were calling out my name in your sleep."
I blushed a bit embarrassed. "Sorry if I made you worry. I didn't know I talk in my sleep." That made him shake his head no.
"You don't. What were you dreaming about?" I didn't answer his question. I just shook his head no, letting him know that I didn't want to talk about it. I mean, who can tell their vampire hunter boyfriend that they had a dream of becoming a vampire?
