A few months back

"Taylor, wait! Why are you in such a hurry?" I asked him. He ignored me and continued walking. "Taylor!" I called again. He stopped and turned to face me.

"I'm not in a hurry. You need to walk faster, slow poke. Unlike you, I don't want to clean the nasty restrooms at the cafe," he said as I caught up to him. He began to walk fast again as I tried to stay at the same pace, unsuccessfully.

"We have time, you know. Slow down!" I complained to him. He rolled his eyes and grabbed me. He threw me over his shoulder as I kicked and hit his back. I gave up after a few blocks until we came to a small, grassy hill.

Taylor dropped me on the ground. "ow! Hey!" I said as I looked up at him.

He shrugged, "you told me to put you down." I grabbed his hand and pulled him down. I got up and ran away from him. He got up and continued walking, catching up to me without breaking a sweat. Once he caught up to me, he said, "fine, you want to play, I'll play."

I started thinking, ''how about a race to the cafe?"

He nodded, "the loser has to clean the restrooms."

I nodded and held out my hand for him to shake, "deal."

He shook it and we got in to a ready position. "On your mark. Get set. Go!" We took off running but unfortunately he was faster. He ran ahead of me with no doubt he was going to win. I slowed down to a stop when I got closer to the cafe. Taylor was already there, leaning against the wall with his arms crossed over his chest. He had an annoying smirk on his face, he knew he had won.

I was out of breath when I told him, "fine, you win. I'll clean the restrooms." He opened the door for me and I walked in. I grabbed our aprons and handed him his before getting to work. After about five hours of standing around and taking orders, Jason walked in and took a seat.

I walked over, "hey Jason, what can I get you?"

He smiled, "the usual. Hazelnut coffee with a glazed doughnut on the side.''

I wrote it down and handed the order to Taylor. He took it and started making the coffee as I brought Jason his doughnut. "Brenda, what time do you get off today?" he asked me.

I shrugged, "nine, why?"

He took a bite out of his doughnut before saying, "so we can hang out and play video games, duh. We haven't done that for a long time."

I nodded and smiled, "that sounds like fun but I can't. I help Taylor clean the place. Not only that but I have to clean those disgusting restrooms."

He made a gross face, "get someone else to clean it. Taylor can handle everything by himself." Taylor came over with the coffee in his hand.

"Just go with him. I can handle everything for tonight. Our bet will start tomorrow."

I thought about it then nodded, "alright, I'll go."

That made him happy. We began talking about what games we're going to play when a strange girl walked inside. She had hair like sunlight and eyes as blue as the sea. She is absolutely beautiful. Jason stared at her with wide eyes as she passed us and sat at the corner table, away from the window.

"Is she a new customer? I've never seen her here before." Jason asked us. I shook my head and took a step toward her when Taylor stopped me.

"I got this one," he said as he walked over. I watched him as he began to take her order. "Does he know her?" Jason asked me.

I shrugged, "I don't know. He never mentions anyone that I don't already know ."

Taylor came back over to us and handed me her order, "little miss royalty wants her coffee in less than five minutes."

I nodded, "alright but who is she?"

He shrugged, "she said her name was Ann-Marie."

Jason stood up to leave already as I walked over to the coffee maker. I started making her order when all of a sudden, a couple left their toddler near their coffee and spilled it over the table and floor. I sighed, knowing that we're going to have to clean that up. I carefully started taking the coffee over to her, avoiding the wet floor as much as possible. Without noticing, I stepped in a puddle and slipped. Before I can hit the ground, Taylor catches me while the coffee spilled on the ground.

"Be careful," he said as he stared into my eyes.

I nodded, "I didn't see that. Thanks for helping me." He nodded and helped me back to my feet. I walked over to the coffee maker and began to start over as Taylor started mopping up the mess. I took the mop from him and handed him her coffee. He took it over without a word.

After about another four hours, it was finally time to close. I cleaned the restrooms in less than an hour and hung my apron on the wall. Taylor was picking up chairs and it didn't feel right for me to leave him here alone. John, our boss, is at the register counting the money without glancing at Taylor. I decided to help him out. I started the opposite side of the room as we slowly began to meet in the middle. Once we were in the last chair, we both grabbed it and lifted it onto the table.

"Why did you stay? Don't you have to go meet up with Jason right now?" he asked me.

I nodded, "yeah but it's not fair for me to just leave you here while I go have fun. Hey, why don't you come with me?" He shook his head no. "Why not?" I asked him.

"We don't get along and I have somewhere to be," he told me with an expressionless face.

I frowned, "that's too bad. I really wanted you to come with me."

John realized we were done and let us out through the back way. As we walked, someone stood in the moonlight, obviously waiting for us to come out. "Who's that?" I whispered to him. He shrugged and pushed me behind him.

"Hello Taylor. I have been waiting for you," a girl said as we got closer.

I looked up to him and whispered, "you know her?"

He shook his head no. "Who are you? How do you know me?" He asked the girl. She stepped into the light so we can clearly see her.

"It was on your name tag, stupid. Let's go already, you promised me that you would walk me home," Ann-Marie said.

He shook his head again, "I don't even know you. Why would I walk you home when I have better things to do?" She frowned as if she was a bit disappointed.

"You shall be mine soon enough, Taylor" she said as he grabbed my hand and pulled me behind him as we walked passed her. He walked me all the way to Jason's house and was about to leave when I grabbed his arm.

"Why don't you stay? Have fun once in a while," I told him.

He shook his head no, "I don't think he would want me to stay."

I didn't let go, "please stay, for me?"

He thought about it for a few seconds before sighing, "alright.'' Jason came to the door with a smile but that smile disappeared when he saw Taylor.

"Hey Brenda, what's he doing here?" he asked me.

"I brought him so he could have some fun. He needs it so can he stay?" I asked him. He thought about it for a moment before nodding. I pulled Taylor in behind me as he stared off into the distance.

We began playing call of duty but we soon learned not to play against Taylor. "Where did you learn to play like that? I thought it was only your first time playing that game," I asked Taylor.

He shrugged, "it was my first time playing but I've done stuff like this before." We had to leave after that so I said goodbye to Jason as Taylor walked out the door.

I walked over to Taylor who quickly started walking. "Taylor, wait for me!"
