I received a message from Jason, early next morning, stating that due to the investigations of the two students who have been murdered at the high school, school had been cancelled for the rest of the week. I sent him a thank you in return and glanced over at Brenda who was sleeping comfortably with her head resting on my chest. I played with her hair, twirling it around on my fingers, as she slowly began to awaken.

"What time is it?" she asked a bit sleepily. I only shrugged, causing her to sit up and stare at me. "Where's your shirt?"

I chuckled a bit as I climbed out of her bed. "It's on the chair, I think. It was hot last night, so to cool off a bit, I removed my shirt."

She must have checked the time because she jumped out of bed and ran to her closet. "It's eight forty-five! We're late for school!"

I wrapped my arms around her as she faced the closet and whispered "school was cancelled" into her ear.

She seemed to relax as she remembered another important detail. "What about my parents? Do they know your here?"

I shrugged, "only one way to find out."

I released her and grabbed my shirt from the chair. I could feel her staring at me as the shirt fell over my chest. As I looked back at her, I could see that her eyes were all puffy from crying yesterday. She grabbed my hand and led me into the kitchen where her mother was cooking breakfast.

"I heard the news about Selena. What's going on in the school?" her mother asked without looking at us.

"Vampires have been attacking students." I know exactly who's attacking too.

She shook her head no, "vampires are such idiots. Has the association gotten involved yet?"

I nodded, "they dispatched Hailey and Parker on this case along with me." She turned to us and held out two plates.

"Breakfast is on the table" was all she said. We took the plates from her and walked back to the table where a plate stacked with chocolate chip pancakes sat.

"Mom, where's dad?" Brenda asked.

"He left early to manage that book store," her mother turned around and walked over to join us at the table.

"Are you going to explain why you two were sleeping together? And why Taylor was shirtless with you on his chest?" Brenda nearly choked but I could see her cheeks flush with embarrassment.

"How did you know?" was all Brenda asked, but even I knew the answer.

"She used to be a hunter. If there's a strong presence nearby, she'll know." Her mother nodded at my answer.

"You also had the door open. It took me a while to get your father to leave without him seeing you two," she said as she poured a cup of coffee into a mug.

"Brenda, do the dishes when your finished. Taylor will be busy mowing the lawn."

I smirked, knowing we were going to get punished one way or the other. "Where's your lawn mower?" I asked her.

She pointed at Brenda. "Ask her" was all she told me before sitting in the living room.

I turned to Brenda, waiting for the answer. She tried to ignore me before eventually looking at me. "Why are you in such a hurry to get started?" she asked a bit frustrated.
"It's going to get hot later. I would like to get started now."
