chapter forty

its saturday evening and sebastian and rachel are at his grandparents house they have just finished dinner and are still sat round the table having a coffee and talking.

" that was delicious " penny said to maggie

" thank you" maggie said

" so what you kids got planned for later im guessing staying home with old folks like us isnt that fun" sj asked

" im going bowling " skylar said

"very nice " sj said

" we are just going to chill and watch tv" sebastian said

" thats just whatclily and i are going to do" sj said

" im going for a drink with a friend"penny said

" ooh is this husband number four " martin asked.

" actually its all perfectly innocent given recent events i no longer am happy been known for just been a smythe so i have decided to do something worthwhile with my life" penny said

" thats great what is it" martin asked

" im going to be a party planner the guy im having a drink with runs ohio's best party planning company " penny said sebastian tried to suppress his laugh but couldnt.

" sebastian " penny said

" im sorry aunt penny but when you said worthwhile i thought you meant charity work" sebastian said

" the company holds fundraisers " penny said.

" maggie how about we go for a nice stroll" martin asked

" that would be lovely " maggie said getting up from the table.

as they made their way out of the room martin turned back and tapped his pocket while looking at sebastian.

" he is going to do it" sebastian said once maggie and martin had left.

" yes he told me as soon as you got back from the jewellery store he said he couldn't wait another day he also asked for my permission unlike the other bastard" sj said

" sj language " lily exclaimed

" its alright grandma i think it suits him more than charles " skylar said everyone laughed.

" so then lily our daughter is finally going to be happy" sj said and lily couldnt stop her eyes filling up.

" i never thought this day would come" nora said also getting emotional.

" ofcourse she had to marry charles though because if she hadnt we wouldnt have sebastian " lily said

" true " sj said smiling at him sebastian cuddled rachel too him.

" yeah life wouldnt be as interesting without him would it" skylar chuckled.

" no it certainly would not" sj chuckled.

"we best get ourselves together incase he bottles it and doesnt ask her tonight" nora said

" he will he is a smythe and good or bad we dont bottle it" penny said

they chatted for a while before  they heard a door and all fell silent sebastian clutched rachel's hand and squeezed it as they all sat looking at the door way.

then maggie and mrtin appeared looking relaxed and calm and they walked over to the table everyone shared a look as they sat down.

" with the looks on your faces anyone would think we were engaged " martin said

" oh maggie " lily said bursting into tears sebastian jumped up and ran round the table and hugged his mom.

" im so happy for you" sebastian said maggie couldnt talk she was too emotional.

" ooh its bigger than your first one" penny exclaimed looking at the ring.

" seriously penny " martin said

"i just meant it will infuriate him good on you " penny said hugging martin rachel wa now hugging maggie.

" can i have a word with you both" maggie said to sebastian and rachel.

the three of them left the room and went and stood in the kitchen maggie cupped sebastian's face and smiled at him.

" its funny parents are supposed to sho their children what true love is but i think you two have shown me if i hadnt been for you both i doubt martin and i would have had tbe courage to be together " maggie said

" he is a good man you deserve him and he deserves you and i would only let you be with someone who deserves you after what that thing has done to you im not calling him dad anymore " sebastian said

" i have always been proud of you seb but the past few weeks you have made me beyond proud you say martin is a good man i think your the best man i have ever known " maggie said

" speaking of best man" martin said walking in.

" hey" sebastian said as he and martin hugged before martin hugged rachel.

" would you be my best man" martin asked

" i would love too" sebastian said

" rachel will you be my bridesmaid " maggie asked

" i would love to be" rachel said hugging maggie.

"why did i wear mascara look at the state of me" maggie said all the happy tears and made her make up run.

" maggie you have never looked more beautiful " martin said as he lead her from the room.

" so looks like im getting a stepdad" sebastian said pulling rachel to him.

" yeah" rachel said

" im so happy" sebastian said

" me too after everything they have beenntnrough they deserve to be happy" rachel said

" yeah but i wasnt talking about them i was talking about us i love you so much i know things haven't been easy but since we got together everything has fallen into place"  sebastian said before kissing her.

" we best be getting back through to the others" sebastian said

" actually can i have a word with you seb" sj asked as he wheeled himself into the kitchen.

" ok" sebastian said

" i will be in the living room" rachel said

" so its been quite a night" sj said

" yeah it has" sebastian said

" and quite a day" sj said

" yeah" sebastian said

" martin told me he wasnt the only one who made a purchase today" sj said

" grandad i know im young and..." sebastian started to say.

" seb why have you jumped to the conclusion that im against it i came in here to pat you on the back rachel is a lovely girl your grandma and i adore her as does your mom. i was younger than you when i met your grandma and we are happily married all these years later. look at your mom and nartin despite years of tormet their loved survived." sj said

" thank you" sebastian said
