Reinvent Love

Moving in

The day came where I would have to go to college. my dad helped me get all my luggage on the train and we were off. Three hours later we came to the station. It was then a twenty one minute drive to the university. We got there and did all that checking in crap. After that I found my way to the apartment that I was going to be living in.

I got the key and opened up the door. It was scarcely decorated and all painted white. There was a little kitchenette off to the left and a living room in the center. A door I'm guessing that lead to the bathroom was off to the right. A loft above all of this had two bedrooms separated by a sheet hanging on a rope attached to the ceiling. One of the "rooms" had blue bedding and a few posters hanging up on the wall for Fall Out Boy and Panic! at the Disco.  Awesome, we have the same taste in music! I thought to myself. There was a key board set up against the wall and a little seat to play on it. the other room had no sheets and just a double bed with a bed stand, along with a closet against the wall. Both bedrooms had that. It was all wood flooring except for the kitchen which had light gray linoleum flooring and an island in the middle of it with the sink and oven. I climbed the ladder to see the grey carpeting in the loft.  there was a grey L-shaped couch and two big windows that let light flood into the apartment. the person who lives with me must not have been home right now. My dad hugged me and said his goodbyes. He faked his I love you and closed the door. Finally. Gone.

I was the left on my own to unpack and decorate my side of the room. I put all my clothing in the closet and hung up a poster of my own, a My Chemical Romance one and also a pretty flower tapestry along with my fairy lights. I put my ukulele on the floor and started making my bed. I had yellow sheets with a black and white flower design on them and a matching duvet and pillows. On the bedside table I put a candle and filled the drawer with little knick-knacks.

I heard the door open and someone walk in. I met eyes with a girl who had a short, floofy, dirty-blonde pixie cut and glasses just like me. She was carrying a couple grocery bags and had a small backpack as a purse. Instantly, I couldn't help but think that she was beautiful.

"Oh hey, you must be my new roomate. I'm Adiline, nice to meet you", She said as she smiled.

"Hey, I'm Ruby", I said. I climed down the rope ladder of the loft so I could meet her. She put down her bags on the island.

"So, where are you from?", Adiline asked me.

"Just  a small town in New York, you?", I asked.

"Basically the middle of nowhere, formally known as New Hampshire", She said. I chuckled a bit and said, "same!"

"I see we have similar tastes in music", She said as she looked up at my side of the room.

"Yeah, were going to be the edgy roomates!" I said enthusiastically. "So, tell me a bit about yourself"

"Well, I like D&D, Audrey Hephburn, Fangoria, Harry Houdini, and croquet, " I joined in on her, realizing what she was doing. "You cant swim, you can't dance, and you don't know karate. face it,  your never gonna make it!", We said together. "But I don't wanna make it, I just wanna.....", Adiline said.

"I can't be the only one who's always wondered what he was going to say", I said.

"Eh, he was probably gonna say he just wanted to fuck frank", Adiline said. We both laughed at the joke.

"Well to be real, I'm Adiline Watson.  Second year here and studying AP Arts. I play the piano and stuff and you already know about my taste in music. Oh also I'm a lesbian, I know some idiots cant comprehend that not everyone is the same."

I suddenly got very happy with the last few sentences leaving her mouth. For a while I've known I was bisexual and my chances of dating the beautiful girl I had just met a few minutes ago became possible. The thing is, I haven't come out to anyone. I've always told myself I would do it in college, and now was the time. I smile crawled onto my lips.

"I'm Ruby Fairweather, first year and studying to become a home interior designer. I play ukulele and yeah" I thought about the words I wanted to say next, "and I just happen to be bisexual." I clenched my jaw as I said that. The words leaving my mouth for the first time. I saw Adilines face change, I couldn't exactly tell what her mood was.

After a bit of a pause, Adiline said,"That's such a pretty name", I felt myself blushing a bit.

"Thanks", I said shyly. I was never really good with compliments. I didn't really know how to respond. "I like uh, your, taste in music?" I said hesitantly. She Smiled a bit and giggled. "Thanks", She said.

We talked some more and then ordered takeout for our first meal together. We sat and ate while watching what ever came on TV.

"It's kinda funny to think that during the making of the titanic they got a bunch of people to frolic in a big pool with the lights off", I said. Adiline burst out laughing at the comment. The titanic had absolutely nothing to do with what we were watching, I was just thinking about that and decided to say it.

"Oh my god, what if northern downpour was based off that movie, cuz it goes, if all of life is but a dream, rose's whole dying dream thing at the end, fantastic posing greed, the diamond was worth a heck a lot of money, then we should feed our jewelry to the sea, she throws the necklace in the sea, IM A HECKIN GENIUS!" Adiline said.

"Stop before you make me have an exisential crisis", I said laughing.

The night came and the sun took its beautiful journey into rest, it was time to go to bed. we both brushed our teeth and then went to our rooms.

"I will never understand the people who wash their toothbrush after they put the toothpaste on, doesn't that just like beat the entire purpose?" Adiline said.

"I know right!" I answered. "They're probably the same people who put the roll of toilet paper on wrong"

We both laughed and finished up brushing our teeth. Then one at a time climed up the ladder and into our beds.

"Goodnight Ruby"

I wanna say I'm going to upload mostly on the weekends, but if I have time during the week I'll try to

also the I've-never-been-to-college-ness is radiating off of me
