"OOooO Good morning Ruby!" Addy said in a ghostly voice. I woke up to her with a sheet over her head 'haunting' me. I laughed. "Oh Addy, you really are something."
"Im sorry it's the best day of the year!" She said after dramatically removing her bedsheet. Her hair was messed up and inher face. Addy's been under so many blankets now that I think about it, between her ghosting around and making pillow forts. "Come down stairs"
I got myself up and ran my fingers through my hair. Following her down the ladder I sat down at the kitchen table.
"Dear god Adeline Watson what did you do to the clemontines?" I said with a hint of dissapointment. She had taken a sharpie to them and drew faces on them like jack-o-lanterns and lined them up on the counter.
"It wasn't me, it was a spooky ghost" She said, chuckling to herelf at her work of art, comparible to something a third grader would do. "Now come on that's your breakfast" She told me, a motherly tone laced in her voice.
I laughed. "thank you, spooky ghost, for this wonderful breakfast" I started to peel my clementine and eat it.
"Can you open mine I don't have any fingernails" Addy asked me. She handed me her clementine which had a jagged mouth and square eyes drawn on it.
"I'll get it started for you" I told her. I've had to open oranges and clementines for her enough to get tired of it and just agree to start it for her. After that she was able to do it on her own. In moments like these I really wish she would grow her fingernails out a little bit. They never passed her fingertips in length and were always painted some bright and happy color, never coordinating with her outfits yet looking nice despite that. I personally dont like painting my nails but it looks good when she does it.
We ate our spooky oranges while narrating what the uneaten ones were saying or doing. Addy was so happy and bubbly today. Even in the morning she's able to make me chuckle with her great personality. God, I love that girl.
"Do you think you wanna go to that halloween party tonight?" Addy asked me.
"I dont know, drunk kids and parties with questionable quality food don't fancy me much, and we dont have costumes" I said. I really wasn't much of a party person. "What we could do is binge watch all of the Tim Burton movies, I'm talking Coraline, The nightmare before christmas, Corpse bride, Frankenweenie," I went on, naming all the movies I could think of.
Addy perked up. "That sounds awesome! I like that better, let's do that" A smile was growing on her face. "We should go to rite aid and get ourselfs a bag of candy" She suggested.
"Ooo yeah" I said. "Tonights gonna be fun"
~
We walked down the street to the pharmacy to get ourselves candy for tonight.
"What's you're favorite candy?" Addy asked me.
"Hm, probably reeses" I thought. "What about you?"
"winter green lifesavers" Addy said with a hint of passion. I giggled a bit at the confidence in her voice.
"I guess well get a bag of both" I said. "And some starburst, for variety"
We entered the store and made our purchase. We walked back to the apartment and started to get ready for tonight. We started by throwing blankets over all the windows, making the place nice and dark. We got all cozy on the couch with our bowl of chips and candy and both of us filled our water bottles to have my our sides. Staying hydrated is imortant especially after eating candy and consuming salt.
I turned on the TV. "Which one first?" I asked Addy.
"Coraline. Thats my all time favorite."
"Really? mines The nightmare before christmas" I said. I put on Coraline and the movie began.
"We can watch that one next." Addy said I gave a small cheer as a response.
"I really love the concept of Coraline" Addy said.
"Me too" I responded.
The movie played through the beggining and middle. Coraline's doll parents had tried sewing the eyes on her already and things were going down.
"I used to scream because of the hand, it was the most terrifying thing in the world to me" I said as the hand chased Coraline.
Addy chuckled. "The thought of sewing buttons on my eyes made me cringe so hard"
"Did you know you could get a papercut on your eyeball?" I said. "That disturbs me immensely"
Addy shuddered. "Didn't need to know that."
I laughed a bit. "You're welcome"
Coraline was over and we put on The nightmare before Christmas.
"This is halloween, this is halloween, pumkins scream in the dead of night, this is halloween this is halloween..." I sang along. I'd watched it so many times I could nealy sing the whole thing.
"I could never tell if this was a christmas movie or a halloween movie" Addy said, her focus still on the screen
"I say both" I said as Jack sang his song in the grave yard.
We finished the movie, taking a bathroom at stretch break at one point. We watched Corpse bride but stopped after that because both of our eyes were straining and we were dozing off occasionally. We decided to go to bed.
"Night Addy"
"Night Ruby"
I smiled until I fell asleep that night. I have to say. Best Halloween ever.
