Addy and I walked down the street. It would of been so easy to just let my head look down, keep my eyes on the ground like I always do. I feel like almost no one looks up anymore, who knows when a raindrop will fall in your eye, and heaven forbid they see you cry. But Addy and I held our heads high, In fact our eyes were looking straight up at the huge buildings. I don't think Addys ever seen in person these big of buildings, they probably looked even bigger to her than the average woman considering she's like 5"2 or so. I can't say they look any smaller for me because i'm less than an inch taller than her. It's quite funny because Ollie and Leo Tower over us. I think they're both over 6". Our walking stopped as we made it to the cafe.

I opened up the heavy door and we walked in. The smell of cold cuts hung in the warm air. It was quite an interesting place, there was a first floor where you ordered and could sit and then stairs up to a loft where you could also eat. Addy and I ordered and went up the stairs.We picked seats right next to the ledge. A while later and a waitress came with our dishes. Me being the child I am, I got chicken fingers and french fries. Addy got 3 sliders, which are basically mini hamburgers and ridiculously cute.

"Hey Addy", I said. "I'll trade you some fries and a chicken finger for a slider."

"Slider?"She said with a confused tone.

"You know the mini hamburgers you have" I explained.

"Oh yeah ok. I've never heard anyone refer to it as that" She said. She placed one on my plate and I traded her the chicken finger and a few french fries.

"Hm, must be a New York thing" I said. I took a bite of my chicken finger. I then realized how hungry I was and that I probably hadn't consumed anything since 8:00 am, and It's now like four. I tried to eat at a normal pace even though I was quite hungry. (quick a/n-My god i'm writing this in school right before lunch and i am STARVING halp)

Addy and I finished our food, we payed, left a tip, and made our way back to the hotel. We had to walk about 5 or 6 blocks to get back. It was already getting dark, that's one of the things I don't really like about winter, the daylight lasts for what feels like three hours. I was quite surprised with how well I was navigating us through the city. I don't know why but something just felt so weird about being able to do this. Never in my life have I been able to be so independent. After my mothers death my dad turned into somewhat of a helicopter parent, at least when he wasn't consuming unhealthy amounts of alcohol and smoking the cancer sticks that are cigarettes. Looking back on it, I'm quite surprised at how well my mother was able to hide the fact she was on drugs. Then again during the last year or so of her life she strayed away from the family more, Her eyes always looked darker and her nails got yellow, thats why she would always paint her nails. That's why I don't like to paint my nails. It just is a coverup for something much darker in my mind.

We got back to the hotel, I got out of my little bubble of thought. Before going back up, Addy being the five year old she is pulled me to the side into a room with a bunch of snacks and stuff.

"Ooo can we get these?" She asked, she held up a bag of caramel m&m's.

"Yeah go ahead, i'm gonna get these" I picked up a bag of those mini reeses. We checked out at five dollars and then went into the elevator and up to our room. I got to do the keycard, for some reason it's quite satisfying in a way, I don't know, that's just my weird opinion.

Addy jumped onto the bed and ripped open her m&m's. Eyes gleaming along with her smile, she stuck one in her mouth. I joined her on the bed, camly opening my reeses compared to her. I ate one too.

"Oh Addy!" I said, "Want to go to the pool soon?"

"Oh yes!" She exclaimed. "I kinda forgot" She giggled a bit. "Let's go now."
