Reinvent Love

Pillow forts and torrential downpours

I got up in the morning and got dressed. I was oddly awake today. Pretty Odd if you ask me. Addy was up soon after me and we got our breakfast. Today was an extra good day because it was coffee and doughnuts. I have to say, doughnuts are my favorite. I had a lecture at 8:00 sadly, So I had to leave without watching TV with Adiline.

It was a cold brisk morning and the  sidewalks were sparsely populated. I got to my lecture hall and sat down. I saw a girl sit a few seats away from me. From what I could see she looked really nervous. Somehow I got my introvert ass to get up and sit next to her, cuz I knew how it feels to be like that.

" Hey I'm Ruby, how are you?", I said as kindly as possible.

" Oh hi, Penny. I'm good"She said with a smile.

" Is this your first year?"I asked.

" yeah"

" me too" I answered, a gave a small smile.

The professor came in. I changed my seat to the one next to Penny.

" Ok class, where going to be starting a unit on drugs, what they are, how they are used, and how you can stay safe with them.", Professor Bayer said. I perked up, the thought of my mother entering my head. He put on a power point presentation. We learned about a bunch of drugs in order of how bad they were. After that triggering topic, I headed to the small diner again to get lunch. No more lectures for today. It started to drizzle as I walked.I hurried to get there.

I got there and was hit with the smell of coffee once again. Little bells chimed as I opened the door. I went up to the front to order. I got soup this time because I was freezing. Soon a lady came with my order. I enjoyed eating as I watched the rain hit the window. It was getting heavier and heavier. To the drums of the city rain, I thought to myself. That line always enters my head when It rains. By the time I was done I had to sprint home because it was a torrential downpour. 

When I got to the house, a giant pile of all the blankets in our apartment  and a few stools were all around the couch. " Addy?" I said, waiting for a reply. A lump that was her popped up under a blanket. " Hi" she said, still under there.

" Watcha doin under there?" I said,  chuckling.

" Makin a pillow fort" I heard her say muffled from the blanket. " Wanna join?"

" Ok" I said. I put my stuff down." First let me change into some dry clothes, Im soaking wet."

"Why?" She asked while she scrambled to get the blanket off her head. Her hair was all in her face and her glasses were very close to falling off. I giggled a bit.

" Oh my goodness have you looked outside? It's Down pouring!" I said as I made my way up the ladder.

" Oh wow I didn't even realize that" Addy said. I got changed into some comfy pajamas and went back down. " Is it a spooky downpour?" She asked.

" Oh yeah halloween is coming, I guess if you call nearly slipping on the sidewalk spooky, then yes." I said said. Addy giggled.

" So what's the plan here?" I asked as I got under the blanket.

" We're gonna use the duct tape to secure this sheet to the back of the couch and we're going to hold it up in the front with the stools and more duck tape." She told me.

" Sounds like a plan, but I think your going to need to get out from under the duvet"

She whined, "Ugh, I know" Addy got up and joined me where I was standing behind the couch.

" Where'd you put the tape?" I asked. Addy searched around. " Oh it's here" She grabbed it off the table.

" Ok you hold it here while I tape it" Adiline said. I held the sheet in place while she secured it to the couch. We got the whole sheet on with 4 pieces of tape and then went on to getting it on the stools.

" K now we have to get that other sheet and make the walls." I said. We got the other sheet and draped it over the existing fort. So far we had A pretty cool thing made. All we needed was a door. We did that and boom, the fort was made.

" Time for interior! Ruby you should do this, your the one who's gonna be that when you get out of college" Addy said.

" Oh goodness okay" I crawled inside. "Okay, were gonna need the fairy lights from my room, the decorative pillows, and your duvet over there, Oh also get the boyfriend pillows." I told her. She went up the ladder. " Incoming!", She yelled. Pillows  soon came flying down from the loft.

" Adiline don't you dare throw the fairy lights they will shatter everywhere" I said with a sense of urgency after comprehending what she had just done.

" Ok mom", She said sarcastically. She went down the ladder with the fairy lights wrapped around her arm.

" Ok you go plug those in over there", I told her. She did so while I laid the blanket out like a carpet. I put the boyfriend pillows in the two back corners and set up the pillows in the front. The door lifted up and Addy came in with the string of lights. She went around the perimeter of the room.

" Great now we just need some popcorn and your laptop" Addy said. I got my laptop and she emptied a bag of skinny pop into a large bowl. Along with that she grabbed two bottles of water. We both crawled in and wrapped ourselves in blankets.

" What do you want to watch?" I asked.

" I feel like this is the perfect time to binge watch spooky weeks from the past " she said.

" Okay" I opened my laptop and searched it up. We sat there and watched the screen . We watched about 6 episodes until we realized it was dark out, also we ran out of snacks and Addy had to pee, so yeah, binge watching was over. We crawled out and faced the light.

" Ahh I feel like a vampire", Addy said while squinting.

" I know me too" I replied.

" We should totally keep that up though" Addy said.

" We can but we'll have to take a few blankets off considering that's every one we have in the house."

" Oh fine," She whined.

" Well anyways, what do you want to do for dinner?" I asked.

" I'm not even hungry after eating all that popcorn" she replied.

" Yeah me either, lets just skip dinner and if your hungry eat ramen"

" Sounds good to me"

Later on we took some blankets off the fort to sleep with. It was quite a process getting them up there. Addy attempted to throw them multiple times yet was unsuccessful. Eventually we did it.

" Goodnight Addy"

* A/N i'm at my sisters cheer competition and i'm basically just watching a bunch of teenage girls violently scream numbers and their fat moms who are living vicariously through them

also there was this man violently hitting a cow bell to the beat of the song and it was the funniest thing Ive ever seen
