I walked down the same familiar streets to my lecture. It almost felt good to get back into the swing of things, life had order again and I got to see some friends, not in this upcoming class though. Actually no, Penny is in my next class so that's a little better. I entered the room full of kids dragging their feet as they lumbered along to their seats. The professor welcomed us back with some big news. We would be doing a group project. In groups of ten, half from the architect kids and half the design kids, we would be constructing and decorating a room as a big test, based on a certain theme that would be selected out of a hat. There would be made up clients with specific things that needed to be done. We had a budget of $500. I was on the edge of my seat, finally all of this studying would be put to use. The professor started to call out names.
"Group one will be, Tracy Ferry, Josh Gorney, Sarah Black, Katie Pelden, Melissa Prency, Kyle Panel, Phil Heinemann, Devin Brown, Alexis Warren, and Ashton Jacques." The professor called out. I knew none of them. The selected students stood up and walked towards the front of the room.
"And your theme will be, Medieval. Your client is a middle aged man who enjoys renaissance architecture and would like a room to reflect that. He has also requested the room have windows similar to the ones in the historical time period described previously."
Wow, I thought. That seemed somewhat difficult. Although the specific requirement seemed easy. The professor called out the next group. I listened for my name but it wasn't there. Those students went up and got their theme which was a child's room that had to be very colorful and also baby proof. It needed a changing table and bathroom. Now that seemed difficult.
Group 3 started to be called out. "Nicole Page, Penny Leafen, Ryan Garrett, Daniel Madina, Keira Smith, Alex DaiGasso, Remi Katerosn, Wyatt Lazaro, Jasmine Perry, and Ruby Fairweather." I jumped up and walked toward the front. Penny was in my group, how great.
"And your theme is, bohemian. Your clients are a small family whose decided to move into a tiny home. you'll need to fit a living area, and a place to sleep three all in the small space, with a bohemian asthetic to it all.Of course it's not a full house considering that'd be unfair to your group compared to the others." Oh boy this is going to be difficult. All of us got our belongings and gathered together in the seats.
A girl with a pixie cut who had just the underside of her bangs dyed a fading red in an olive colored asbury park sweatshirt and ripped mom jeans with a pale complexion and glasses spoke first. " Well I guess we should start by introducing ourselves, i'm Keira and i'm from the interior design class" She said.
We were all in a circle. The girl to the right of Keira spoke. She had pinstraight dark brown hair that went down to her mid back and a round face. Freckles were placed on her cheeks oh so perfectly. "Hi I'm Nicole, i'm from the architect class"
the boy next to her had black curly hair and wore a dark maroon top. He looked to be indian maybe, but i'm not one to jump to conclusions. " hello, i'm Ryan, I'm also from the architect class" He said. his voice was low but not intimidating.
Penny introduced herself. Her hair had grown out since I saw her last it seemed. It was still wavy and pretty and today she had it half up half down.
A boy who I soon found out was named Daniel introduced himself. His sweater was so large he looked like he was swimming in it and his black skinny jeans had rips in them. He looked a lot like Leo as his head dawned a beanie along with the fact of their very similar asthetics. He was from the interior class.
A girl I believe is mexican introduced herself as well. " Hey, I'm jasmine, I'm an architect kid" She said. The words rolled off her young's so easily. She had long black hair that was dutch braided, and even then the two braids went down nearly to her hips.
It was then my turn to introduce myself. Me being one of the most awkward humans I know I nearly forgot my name. the words got out of my mouth in broken fragments but they got out none the less. Not the best first impression but not the worst. I tried to shake off the awkward experience but it still lingered with me for a while.
A dark skinned boy who could be considered a little chubby spoke next. " Hello, I'm Wyatt, I'm an architect student" He has the slightest accent but I couldn't tell you where he was from. Jamaican? Liberian? something along those lines, but don't hold me to my word.
A girl named Remi introduced herself next. Her hair was light brown and short, nearly a buzz cut, but there was some length on top. She definitely could of passed as a boy except for the fact of her winged eyeliner and feminine attire. She wore skinny jeans and a tucked in shirt, most likely from forever twenty one. She wore an old combat jacket, or at least I think that's what you call it. She probably got it from goodwill. Her jeans were cuffed up to the point where there was about an inch of her leg showing between the jeans and her white high top converse. She was from interior design.
Finally, the last person spoke. His name was Alex. His hair was an orangey brown and he was covered in freckles. Diminutive in size as he stood no taller than 5"5. He was from the architect class.
" Well I guess we should start throwing around ideas" Jasmine said.
" I think i'd be cool to do one of the places to sleep a loft bed" Remi said quickly to get her idea out.
" Ooh I like that idea" I said.
" c'mon let's start sketching" Daniel said. He motioned with his hand to move even thought we were already sitting down. We all agreed and got out our drawing pads/ sketchbooks. I started to lightly draw my idea. I placed a loft bed up in the right with a couch under it. I drew a few other things before i got an idea.
" I think i'd be cool if we did an accent wall" I said, quiet but to the people close to me could hear.
" Whats that?" Alex asked.
" Oh it's like when 3 walls of a room are all the same but then the fourth is different, let's say it was painted a different color or had a pattern on it" I explained.
" Ooh that seems cool" Alex said.
We did a bunch more planning and finally came up with our end result, which next class we would start, but now our lecture was over and it was time to go home. I was excited to tell Addy about this, but she wasn't home and neither was Carter. I decided i'd be nice and get us dunkin, it's all of ours favorite treat.
I walked down the street in the cold winter weather to the dunkin on campus. which happened to be quite close to my lecture hall. I walked in and was greated by warmth and a punjent smell of coffee. I got on the line, when it was my turn I ordered Addy and I caramel iced coffees and Carter a green tea, along with a box of 6 doughnuts. dunkin has really small but good doughnuts. I walked to the apartment complex we live in and took the old dingy elevator with cobwebs ever present in the top corners to the 4th floor. I unlocked the door to 410 and entered the place i had learned to call home.
