Christmas

The car drove along the New Hampshire roads nestled in between the beautiful snowy mountains. I couldn't help but look out the window at the beauty behind it as big snowflakes floated down.

"So Ruby, what's your major?" Ms. Watson asked me. I played with my hands in the back seat, squishing myself into the window behind Addy's seat. Snowflakes stuck to the glass, leaving quite a spectacle for only a few seconds, then melting into plain old water.

"Oh uh I'm studying to become a home interior designer" I blurted out. I'm really not good with new people.

"Oh that's cool, what about you Carter?" She asked, her eyes focused on the road ahead that with every snowflake got more dangerous.

"I don't go to college yet, I just live with Addy and Ruby for the time being" Carter explained. He was much better with talking to people than I was. Just shows how much of an antisocial introvert I am, as i've explained. "But I am planning on enrolling in this college next year." He added.

"Are you in highschool currently?" Ms. Watson asked.

"Well technically yes, i'm homeschooled" He explained. Him being homeschooled was quite great as of him suddenly leaving home just at thanksgiving, he didn't have to become a drop out. Although being homeschooled is convenient, Carter is the one who leaves all of his schooling until friday, having to get a whole week in in 3 days, causing him to be left out of weekend activities sometimes. At least he does it.

"Ah I see" Ms. Watson said, her head nodding in affirmation.

After driving for about 20 minutes, we arrived at a small yellow house with a wooden front porch. Christmas lights were strung up along the roof  and a small light up reindeer was sitting in the front of the house. It looked homely. I was glad to enter the house and get away from the cold air. Her house was warm. Right when you entered you could see a blazing fire place and the Christmas tree to the right of it with presents in all different wrapping paper. There was a brown couch on the right and on the left contrasting against the light yellow walls, the same color as the exterior of the house. There was a blue rug in the center of the room with a coffee table on top of it. Before I could process it, quick and heavy footprints came from one corner of the house all the way down the stairs and right to my feet. A big fluffy puppy jumped on me as it wagged its tail. I collapsed to the ground and started petting them, they were super happy and super sweet. Carter joined me on the ground enjoying the dog too.

"Oh that's Collin, he's one happy boye" Addy said with a laugh. She pet him too.

"Tell him to get off of you he's not supposed to jump" Ms. Watson said.

"Oh I don't mind" I said. I stood up and stopped petting Collin. He sat up yet still wagged his tail. Collin was about to my waist and super fluffy.

"That's one fluffy boye" I leaned in and said to Addy. She chuckled in response.

Along with the dog, a child, Emma, came running down the stairs.

" Addy!" She said in her high pitched shrill.

Addy got on her knees to hug her. She was really cute. Her hair was super curly and just made it past her chin. She had on a christmas onesie that made her look like a little elf. Emma couldn't of been more than 2"5. I guess being short runs in their family. Then again she was 3. I don't know the average height for a 3 year old.

" Emma, this is Ruby." Addy said to her. I knelt down as well to meet her. I smiled at her as she tackled me in a hug. 3 year olds ways of greeting people are adorable. I hugged her back as giggles escaped my mouth, a smile ever present. Emma was so cute. This was going to be a fun week. I heard Addy laughing too.
