"Does he know that you're home?" Mia asked worriedly.

"Why would he?" I countered, getting ready for the night's festivities.

I pulled out a black bustier with black ripped jeans, electric blue Louboutin's with a sapphire pendant that hung dangerously low near my cleavage and matching earrings, blue eyeliner, nude lipstick and a bit of highlighter finished my look for the night. Mia just looked at me in awe and chuckled a little.

It was my first time back at a race in four years, a race here anyway. It was also my first time home in four years and the only person who knew that I was back was Mia. She said that she understood my need to keep it to myself and respected it even though she wanted me to go over to the house. I'm not quite ready for that yet.

I'm not ready to see them together just yet, that armor isn't quite as strong as I need it to be. I've been home for a week now and the first thing I did was watch the shop for the moment when everyone left. That's when I took advantage to go see Mia. Both of us cried and I let her scream and shout at me for not coming back sooner. It was just so good seeing her again that I couldn't tell her why I hadn't come home sooner, I can't do that to her.

"What are you going to do to your hair?" she asked, changing the subject.

"Put it up, I don't want my hair in my way tonight." I told her, pulling the gray locks with blue tips up into a tight ponytail and curling the ends.

"He's gonna die when he sees you." she said enthusiastically.

"You realize that your brother has a girlfriend right?" I sarcastically asked.

She made a sound that slightly resembled my old latina nanny when she didn't want to curse but wanted to call bullshit at the same time. Something similar to "egh" that made me chuckle since she got that from me.

"They're more . . ."

"Mia, I really don't want to know what they are or aren't. I'm finally making my debut back home and I want to enjoy it." I told her.

"Sorry, have you been to your home yet?" she asked.

"You know that that place isn't home to me but I did go to see Megan and madrina in Houston before coming here. It was amazing to see them again given the circumstances, I can't be more grateful that she took care of all of the funeral arrangements. I wouldn't have known what to do for my parents. I don't know how she could do it with everything that's happening." I admitted, tweaking my clothes here and there.

"How's Megan doing?"

"Not that good."

"I missed you so much." she said, changing topics again.

"I missed you too." I told her, looking at her in the mirror.

"I'm so sorry that things didn't . . ."
