The shop is full. When the weather is nice out, people just want to step outside and enjoy the sun. Maybe even grab a coffee or a muffin while on their casual stroll. That's where I come in.
"Hey, can I get a double caramel cone and vanilla shake with a blueberry muffin?", a customer inquires brightly.
Stella, the cashier, and my best friend takes the order and collects the money to pay for it. "Give it about 5 minutes," she replies ecstatically.
As the customer takes a seat, Stella moves on to the next person in line. I sprint past her into the kitchen. "Double cream caramel cone, shake original, and a blue muffin!" I indicate. Melissa, my other best friend, takes care of the order in less than a minute. It's like she already had it ready. Then, Mama Dee looks over at me. The smile plastered across her face makes my heart warm up like I'm standing by a warm winter fire. I love making people happy, comfortable, but most of all, proud. I love it when they felt like they can trust me.
"Solie! There are like 20 people waiting for their orders! I literally just finished like five while you were daydreaming," Melissa laughs. I join in with her and grab two orders in my hands before I make my way back to the front of the shop.
A few hours later, around closing time, Melissa, Stella, and I all finish up cleaning and clearing the area while Mama made her way home.
"Guys, we need to go shopping sometime!", Melissa states. "My favorite online stores are having another sale and you already know my cart is completely full. If I don't pay now, my stuff will sell out!"
Stella rolls her eyes. ¨How do you even have money for all this? Aren't your parents aware of all the money your wasting?¨
"Stella, you're one to talk.¨
"Buying college books and saving for when I leave is not a waste of money. It's a great investment towards my future."
All three of us laugh. "Okay guys, I'll see you tomorrow."
Stella looks over at me with pouty lips and pleading eyes. "Don't you want me to drive you home?"
I shake my head and tell her that I want to enjoy the cool weather while I can. She understands and both Melissa and herself get into her car and drive away.
At the house, Mama Dee was waiting for me. "Solane. How are you feeling?", she asks.
The look on my face automatically tells her that I had an amazing day. "Oh, do I even need to ask? I know if anything was wrong, you'd tell me."Here came the guilt flooding my body all over again, I could choke on them. "Yeah. You already know me."
With that, I rush to my room. My head turns quickly as my phone buzzes in my pocket. Laying my bags neatly in one corner of my room, I slip my shoes off and change into some lose shorts and a yellow tank top before opening the 7 unread notifications I had from the group chat I was in with Stella and Melissa.
Melissa: OMG guyyyysss!!! Jayden just texted me! What should I say? I can't make it obvious that I like him *tears*
Stella: I think u should leave him on open. He's gonna break ur heart eventually so don't give in to him
Melissa: Y u so pessimistic? What if he's actually a good guy
Stella: He's not
Melissa: i need a second opinion. Where's this girl Solie
Stella: prob still walking home
Melissa: Girl hurry up and reply, i can't keep jayden waiting
Ugh. Relationships. I am definitely not good at that. But I guess I have to be practical in this situation just for my friends.
Solane: I kinda agree with Stella... I'm sorry but we're gonna graduate in like 6 weeks and once college comes around, he's gonna see new girls and break new hearts. I just don't want u to get hurt
I put my phone on my bedside desk and tuck myself into the covers. After a short prayer, my phone lights up again. I have 2 new notifications.
Melissa: Oh well, already texted him ;)
Stella: why do i even bother *sigh*
I chuckle to myself.
Solane: Oh jeez. Goodnight guys
