When I wake up, my head is pounding. My body seems weaker than it normally is. I feels terrible. Jeremy sits with me in the back of the car. My head's resting in his lap. Rubbing my eyes, I say, "Jeremy... I feel so gross." He moves some of my hair away from my face and strokes my cheek. "What's wrooong?"
"I don't know, I just feel so dirty... and my head hurts... and my body feels like I haven't slept in days. It's so sore."
Jeremy laughs. "Well last night was a bit... rough." His smile does not suppress. In pain, I lift myself off him and open the car door. "God Jeremy! Are you really doing this right now?!" He shrugs his shoulders still smiling. "Whaaat?"
I move myself to the passenger seat and cover myself with a jacket I found lying on the floor. Jeremy tries to follow me, but before he can reach the door handle, I lock it. He's not going to be able to come in.
"Come ooooon, Solieeeee. Lemme in. I'll help you with your problemzzz." He has a weird vibe towards him. It's something new, and I'm not feeling it. "Jeremy what's wrong with you? Why are you acting like this?"
"Acting like whaaaaat?"
Through the window, I get a chance to really observe Jeremy. His eyes are red and glossy and he can't stand up straight. Was he drinking? Where would he have even gotten a drink from? I'm so terrified and in pain. Jeremy begins to force the door open. Although, he isn't doing that much of a good job because he can't even get a grip of the handle. In frustration, he pounds the windows.
"Solar! Open the doooor right now!"
"Jeremy, you're scaring me." He completely ignores what I say. I have to think about this. He's definitely drunk and needs to sleep off whatever intoxicated him. So I do the only thing that made logical sense in this situation. I open the door.
"Thankss Soliee. I love you. Like I reaaaallly reaally really like loove you." He traces my thigh and pulls me in close to him, but I pull away. "No. You're vulnerable right now. You don't know what you're saying."
I get up from the passenger seat and help Jeremy sit down in it. I buckle him in his seat belt. "Soliieee, my heaaad," he moans. Wondering how this happened, I jump into the driver's seat and start the car.
"Jeremy, I need you to do something for me. Can you close your eyes and take a little nap? I need you to wake up sober." I slow my words down and used hand motions as I speak so that Jeremy can understand what I'm trying to say to him.
"I don't waaant to sleep... You're not my mooom. You're my wife. Why you not take care... of the small ones?"
I'm silent and totally confused. He doesn't know what he's saying. So I take the jacket that I had used to cover me and place it over Jeremy. It only made sense to play along.
"You're right. I AM your wife. And as your wife, I would love it if you could rest a little bit. Don't worry, I'll take care of the kids."After about twenty minutes of playing along with him, Jeremy finally falls asleep. I continue driving for about an hour until I park the car again and take a deep breath. My head still hurts.
"Jeremy, I've never had to take care of a drunk person before. You kinda put me in an awkward position." I speak to myself as Jeremy continues to snooze.
"It's a lot of work. Wow. I wonder how people do it everyday," I laugh.
I look out the window and move some of my hair away from my face while licking my lips. "How did this actually even happen? That's what I'm wondering." I stay quiet for a few minutes.
