(Angst without a happy ending)

As long as you're happy, I'm happy.

That was the motto Keith went by throughout his whole life. Even now, in the castle of lions with his new family, he stuck to the motto.

Keith had his own opinion, but he kept it to himself. The only time that he told his opinion was when it involved a plan. But when it came to arguments, he sided with that person.

When Lance had asked Keith to be his boyfriend, Keith said yes. But this wasn't because of the motto, it was his own opinion. For once in his life, Keith had something positive going for him. Lance made him laugh every day, made him smile every day, made him happy every day.

Then one day, Lance came to Keith's room with tears in his eyes. Keith pulled Lance in and sat him on his bed. Keith took his regular position and curled up next to Lance, wrapping his arms around the Cuban's waist.

Keith had asked what was wrong, and Lance lost it. He balled his eyes out and hugged Keith. Lance had buried his head in Keith's hair and began to cry his heart out.

The smaller boy remained still, making sure to not loosen his grip on the broken boy. After ten minutes of sobbing, Lance pulled back and looked Keith in the eyes.

"What's wrong?" Keith asked, wiping the tears that had stained Lance's cheeks.

"I just...," Lance didn't finish as he broke out into more tears.

Keith was quick to pull Lance in a tight hug again, but this time Lance never hugged back.

Keith released the hug and looked and Lance, "Talk to me?"

Lance remained quiet as he looked at Keith, grabbing the small boy's hands rubbing circles around the knuckles. Lance drew in a shaking breath as let go of Keith's hands. Lance brought a hand up to cup his boyfriend's cheek, whispering something that couldn't be heard from Keith.

"What was that?" Keith asked.

"I... I'm breaking up with you, Keith."

Keith's heart broke, shattering into millions of pieces. Keith remained the same outside of his body, however, and simply asked, "May I have the reason?"

Keith only got formal when he was hurt, scared, or even broken. Something in Keith's brain switched to some mode where he could only be polite, not the weird way we talk today.

"I'm not... I just... Listen, Keith, I just feel like we should only be friends. I like you, and I only like you. I'm not... in love anymore. I like someone else."

Keith felt dizzy as Lance spoke. He blinked a bit before asking politely, "May I please know who the new love is?"

"Nyma."

Lance had put it out so plainly that Keith broke more, yet his face remained calm. Keith then asked one final question, "Why were you crying?"

There wasn't an answer for a long time, Lance looking everywhere in the room but the boy in front of him. Keith had just spent 15 minutes hugging Lance as he cried his heart out, and this was what he got in return.

"I'm scared that you're going to yell at me. I'm scared that we won't be friends. I want to still hang out with you, Keith."

Keith forced a small smile on his face, "Of course we can still be friends, Lance. As long as your happy, I'm happy."

Lance smiled back at Keith and left by telling Keith a 'thanks for understanding' and a 'see you around'.

Once the door shut, Keith turned to lay down on his bed, facing the wall. Small tears started to roll down his face as he finally broke. The tears landed on his pillow, creating a small puddle around his eye.
