~Russell's POV~

*A little while after training*

'Everyone, be on alert, I've been told of a group of 5-8 rogues near the borders of our land. If they attack, I want you to be ready,' My dad says to everyone through the link.

'Emma, Orion, and Oliver, if an attack happens, meet me at the front of the pack house and we'll fight together,' I say as I make sure it isn't broadcast to everyone.

'Sounds good,' and 'alright, I'm in,' are their replies. I walk from the living room of the pack house and out onto the porch, then take in a deep breath.

'It's nice and calming, looking at the sky,' Whitefang says in my mind.

'I agree, and the moon helps too,' I reply to him as I sigh contently. I watch the tree line of the forest for a few minuets, then I suddenly see movement.

'Guys, I think I saw something. Come to me but be chill about it. I'm on the porch, Dad you come too,' I say to the three, and my dad. Turning away from the forest, Dad soon comes out of the door.

"Where did you see it?" he asks me quietly. We are a few hundred feet from the forest resulting in him feeling safe enough to talk aloud.

"Directly behind me," I whisper to him, then turn around. Emma, Orion, and Oliver show up in Wolf forms, looking up at me.

'Do you smell anything?' I ask them both. They shake there heads, then suddenly a menacing howl begins coming from the forest.

"Dad stay and command, I'm heading out with these two," I say as I quickly undress to shift. Once I'm on all fours, I take off towards the forest with Emma, Orion, and Oliver in an A formation; me at the head, Emma behind me, with Oliver and Orion a little bit behind us on the right and left. As soon as we get into the forest we slow down and listen to our surroundings. Nothing.

'Shit its an ambush, its way to quiet for it not to be,' I say, and as if to prove my point a circle of Wolves appears around the four of us. It turns out that there are ten instead of the guess of eight.

'This was a calculated ambush,' Orion says with a growl.

'Calculated ambush? Dam, lets hope there are no more Wolves,' I reply back.

Using my Alpha presence, I let out a dangerous growl in warning, making one of the rogue Wolves shift into Human form and begin talking.

"Young wolf, you aren't that scary. I've met alphas a lot scarier than you," he tells me with a dull expression. Orion then shifts and begins speaking my thoughts.

"Who are you?" Orion asks, confronting the rogue.

"Not important. Your dad killed my master's mate and he wants revenge. So you are going to come with me or I'll kill your mate." I look at him confused as he motions for someone to come out from behind a bush. Another rogue in Human from walks out from behind a bush, holding a shaking Connie.

'That's not our mate,' Whitefang says, making me nod to him.

The second rogue hands her off to the one who was talking. I give him a wolfish grin and pounce on them both, sending them crashing to the ground while I dig my claws into the rogue's chest.

"That's not his mate, she just keeps trying to get into his pants since he is the Alpha," Orion says laughing just before he shifts into his Wolf. I ignore Connie and tackle another rogue, knocking him to the ground. I tried going for his throat, but he shifts pushing me off of him.

'Connie for fucks sake, shift and fight,' I command through the link. She does as I say then I'm attacked by the one who just shifted. We roll around snapping and biting until I find an opening and bite down on the rogue's front leg. Snap. The rogue howls in pain, allowing me to push him off of me.

When he hits the ground I pounce on him and proceed to rip his throat out. The rogue sputters and spits out blood before he becomes still.

'Russell, I'm here with help,' My dad says though the link. With my momentary distraction I am pounced on by a rogue who bites into my shoulder. I yelp in pain and try to throw him off unsuccessfully.

The rogue doesn't let up, he stays latched on tearing flesh until Emma comes and bites down onto his neck, snapping it immediately.

'Thanks, Emma,' I tell her as the Wolf falls away from me limply. All of the other rogues are quickly taken care of and I limp back to the pack house.

'You ok Russell?' Orion asks me as he trots up next to me.

'Yeah, could have been worse if Emma hadn't helped me,' I reply truthfully.

'Alright, good you go rest up and I'll see you tomorrow,' He tells me and I nod, ready for sleep. I shift in the living room and wince at the pain. I walk up to my room and pull out a towel to wrap my shoulder so I don't bleed on the bed. Then there is a knock at the door and my dad walks in.

"You handled that well. How is your shoulder?" He asks me. I painfully show him it.

"It's fine, it'll heal soon and It'll be my fourth battle scar," I say chuckling. "Is Emma and Orion ok?"

"Well I'm happy its nothing serious," Dad says with a smile. "Anyway, yes, Emma and Orion are fine, they walked away with just scratches," he adds.

I nod. "Well, I'm going to head to bed. I'm tired and its been a long day of training on top of the attack that just happened, I'll see you in the morning," I say with a yawn. He nods, tells me good night, then leaves my room.

I lay on my bed with the towel on my shoulder then quickly fall asleep.

At first there isn't anything, it is just pitch black but quickly, a full moon appears in the sky and I am able to see a dimly lit, vast opening of overgrown grass.
