Isla's POV:
Here I am sat in an interview for my first paid job to be a rigger. I was waiting outside of a meeting room on a red sofa. The walls were covered in band posters and records, my nerves began to form in the back of my throat.
A lady in black formal high-waisted trousers and a cream blouse came over to me.
"Ah, you must be Isla Scott. I'm Liz Howell, I'll be interviewing you. Come in." I immediately stood up. She was so beautiful and powerful, I was hypnotized by her form.
She gestured me to sit in a seat opposite her, I obliged and cleared my throat.
"It's lovely to meet you Ms. Howell." She nodded and looked down at my CV.
"I see you have lots of experience under your belt. How do you have so many recommendations at the age of 19?" I nodded, listening to every word that laced her lips. I cleared my throat again, God damn these nerves.
"Yes, I've been volunteering since I was 15 at events. I started a level 2 Music course at my local college a year early, then level 3 music tech, and finally level 4 sound tech. In the past 4 years, I've come to have great volunteering opportunities, which have helped me to get here today." Ms Howell just nodded and continued to look through my resume.
"If you have the qualifications to be a live sound technician, why are you wanting to be an artists rigger?" She looked my frame up and down, I was wearing a rust coloured turtleneck with a black a line dress over it. I loved to layer clothes.
"Well, in all honesty Ms Howell, I want to travel. I want to gain even more experience. I myself am a musician and I want to know what it's like on tour." My throat was so dry. I hate interviews
"I see. What do you play?" She let a little smile loose.
"Ukulele, guitar, a bit of bass but I have short arms and little fingers so I'm not amazing. I also sing but again I'm not amazing. I like to write more than perform really." I'm sure she only wanted a short answer but I blabber when I'm nervous.
"Impressive. So I suppose you could tune the guitars as well as rigging."
"Yes, Ms Howell. Over the years, I have leant to tune by ear." She shook her head and chuckled.
"Isla, you can call me Liz."
"Thank you, Ms How- I mean Liz." My cheeks went red.
"Now Isla, would you be prepared to spend a year on a tour bus with at least 7 other people, mostly men shall I add?" I nodded.
"Yes of course." She smiled warmly at me.
"Are you sure? Those boys can get quite smelly." I chuckled at this.
"Don't worry. I grew up around my two brothers and three male cousins. I'm used to it. I also grew up on a farm animal sanctuary so I'm sure that it will be nothing compared." This gained a light chuckle from Liz.
"Wow. Well from all your recommendations, experience, and willing to work, I'd be stupid not to give you the job." I gasped before beaming like a Cheshire cat.
"Thank you so much Ms Howe- Liz. You won't regret this." I shook her hand a little too excitedly.
"I'm sure I won't. Now let's discuss the details. You will be paid around £700 a month with your meals, travel, and rare hotel rooms paid for. You will be working 6 days a week. You will start work in 2 weeks in Birmingham. Bring your passport as you will be traveling between countries. Have you any questions or requirements you want to discuss?" My mind was going a mile a minute. I still couldn't grasp the fact I'd got the job.
