Chapter Twenty Three

Isla's POV:

Over the next couple of days, I was quiet and I just got on with my work. I wasn't feeling as low as before but I wasn't in the mood to have a load of banter and pretend I was a hundred percent.

The days passed by like seconds. I don't remember much and I don't remember feeling. I remember small moments, when Awsten would bring me tea and kiss my forehead when I was mostly staying in my bunk, or when Geoff would text me memes. But other than that, it's foggy.

I think I slept mostly, when I wasn't setting up or showering.

Today, however, I felt awake again. I had FaceTimed my brother, Alaric, who is having a good time, and I had started to write some songs, all before 10am.

I got out of my bunk and made some peanut butter and banana porridge, before showing and washing my hair. I got dressed in a cute playsuit and did some simple makeup.

I put my damp hair up into a bun and grabbed my purse before getting everyone coffee. Everyone was still asleep as the past couple of days were crazy for them all. I found the note in my phone of what peoples orders were last time and I walked to Starbucks.

The air was fresh and slightly cold, but the sky was clear and bright. I found the nearest Starbucks and placed my order. I was waiting for a good ten minutes for all of eight drinks to be made.

I decided to change Awsten's usual order to the drink he orders as a treat. He'd been so good the past couple of days just accepting my lack of character and keeping me going through it. I know how difficult it must have been for him, not knowing how to make someone feel better when they don't know how either, I just want to thank him.

Finally all of our drinks were made so I walked back to the bus. When I got there Mia, Jawn and Geoff were all awake. I gave them all hugs before handing them their coffees.

"Wow Isla this is amazing, thank you so much." Mia smiled.

"Thanks I! I really needed this." Jawn said and gave me another hug.

"Yeah Isla, this is so nice of you. Can we talk later? I wanna catch up." Geoff smiled and I nodded enthusiastically.

I walked over to Awsten's bunk and heard faint awakening murmurs. I opened his curtain slightly and his eyes flickered open.

"Morning sleepy." I spoke softly and smiled.

His face was bright and happy.

"Hey. You look happy." He smiled up at me.

"I think I'm getting there. I brought you something." I handed him his drink as he sat up in his bunk.

"Is that an iced white mocha with raspberry and and extra shot of espresso?" His face lit up as I nodded.

"I heard you talking about how you wanted one yesterday, I think I was half asleep but I remembered." I smiled. Awsten took the drink from my hand and kissed my cheek.

"Thank you so much, jellybean. Wanna have a cuddle?" He smiled and patted a space on his bunk.

"In a minute, let me just go give everyone their drinks before they get cold." He nodded and I walked up to the upper level and handed out coffee to very grateful people. When I gave Otto his he actually moaned in appreciation, which caused me to giggle.

When I was finally done giving out drinks, I grabbed mine and went back to Awsten's bunk. He was sat up on his phone laughing at something.

"Hey what's funny?" I smiled and sat next to him, taking my shoes off.

"Just this thing Travis sent me. Wanna see?" He said still laughing, I nodded and he showed me, it was this really creepy message he got in a fortune cookie. I started to laugh with Awsten.

"So how are you feeling?" He said once he had stopped laughing and put his phone down.

"I'm not sure. I'm definitely feeling awake and in the moment, but there's still a sense of darkness at the back of my mind." I said in complete honestly, I had decided that if I truly liked Awsten, I needed to be honest with him.

"Yeah I get what you mean. Like you are just getting out of choppy, harsh waters but the boat is still rocking and you're worried that you could still fall in." Awsten said, taking me aback, this was something so accurate that it's so powerful that he understands it like that.

"That's exactly how it feels." I said smiling and I took a sip of my drink.

"I felt so lost without you. The past couple of days, it felt like you weren't really here, I know it's selfish but I didn't have you to talk to and I didn't know what to do with myself." He looked at me with saddened eyes and I just wrapped my arms around him as he rested his head in the crook of my neck.

"I'm sorry Aws, I just needed some time to let the storm pass. I'm sorry I wasn't there." I held him tighter and and single tear fell from my eye, in that moment I realised how much this man means to me.

"It's okay, I understand." He whispered into my neck. We sat like that for a while, before we pulled away and started to watch stranger things together until I had to set up.

I'm sorry for such a short chapter.
I've been away for the weekend on a sustainable living camp, which amazing! So I haven't been able to write as I've been busy.
