On the Road- Awsten Knight Waterparks

Chapter Eight

Isla's POV:

I stared setting up at around 12pm and finished around 13:35pm. It took a bit longer than usual as I had to do the lights as well but that was a small price to pay to have him gone.

I took a well deserved break before sound check at 14:30.

I went back to the bus and emptied a can of soup into a microwavable bowl and heated it up. I sat at the small table and opened my laptop.

"Hey!" Awsten walked over towards me and sat down.

"Hi. I just finished setting up and thought I'd grab something to eat." I smiled up at his cute face.

"I realised that I've never heard you play." Awsten stated. I almost choked on my soup. What if he didn't like my music?

"Oh erm. It's nothing special." I tried to laugh it off.

"Please I wanna hear it." I reluctantly agreed and opened up one of my favourite originals on logic (music software program).

It started playing. I watched Awsten carefully, trying to catch his reaction. He started smiling and bopping his head to the slow beat. That's when my voice kicked in.

"Holy fuck! That's you?" Awsten looked at me in awe. I shyly nodded.

"You're incredible. I don't think I've ever heard anyone like you before. You make me feel emotions I didn't even know I had!" I played with the hair band around my wrist, avoiding eye contact.

"Please. You don't have to lie to me to make me feel good. I'm not good, I just mess around." I gave him a weak smile before looking at my soup.

"Honestly Isla this is incredible. You need to share this with the world." I giggled at how dramatic he was being.

"Woah, what's that song? I love it." Geoff walked in.

"See I told you." Awsten looked at me smugly.

"Wait that's one of your songs?" Geoff asked me and I nodded.

"Holy fuck!" I played with my spoon.

"That's what I said!" Awsten laughed warmly.

"Have you seen Otto?" Geoff changed the subject.

"Last time I saw him he was on FaceTime with Grace." Awsten said slightly sour.

Geoff went up the stairs leaving us alone.

"Are you sure that Otto dating Grace doesn't bother you?" I intruded. I felt instantly bad for asking such a personal question.

"To be honest, it does. Knowing that Otto's better than me. That she chose him not me. That fucking hurts. It didn't hurt so bad when I was with Ciara but then, I guess she made me even more certain that I was never enough." Awsten looked really sad.

"Hey! You are good enough what makes you think Otto is better than you?" I held his hand in attempts to comfort him.

"A couple of months after we broke up, she started tweeting shit like; 'When you finally get fucked the way you wanted to get fucked' I was never comfortable being rough or that dom/sub stuff in bed. But she always would want it. Otto is into that, he treats her like she wants to be treated. I just kinda feel inadequate against him." I shook my head and made him look at me in the eyes.

"Not every girl wants that! If a guy asked me to call him daddy I'd fucking run for the hills! No offense to Otto or anything. Some girl is going to be lucky to be treated so kindly and caring by you one day. Take my word. Otto isn't better than you, and you're not better than him. We are all equal in the fact that we are all human." Awsten smiled at me and gave me a quick hug.

I finished my soup and washed up the bowl and some other stuff that had been left in the bowl.

"In your song, you talked about a darkness cutting into you." Awsten said concerned.

"Yeah I know I'm an emo son of a bitch." I tried to be light hearted about it.

"I get it. I just want you to know that even though we've only officially known each other a couple of days, you can talk to me. About anything." I smiled at him and dried off my hands.

"You too."

(Time skip to after the show so like 23:30pm)

I was packing away when Otto came up to me.

"Hey Isla. How are you getting on? Everything okay?" I smiled and clipped the case I was packing things away in, closed.

"Yeah I'm good thanks. Just glad that Evan is gone." Otto looked concerned.

"Yeah Awsten filled me in on that. He made me feel uncomfortable, what a dick." I smiled and took a sip of water. Adam carried the case I had you closed away towards the van.

"Yeah. How are you?" Otto smiled again.

"I'm okay thanks, missing my girlfriend and family." Although Otto was Mr. Steal your girl, he was sweet.

"Grace isn't it. Your girlfriend." Otto nodded.

"I don't know if Awsten has told you or not, but he and Grace have history so I don't really talk about her much around the boys." I nod.

"He did. Tell me. It's none of my business. As long as you're happy, Awsten just needs to find someone who's right for him." I smiled. He helped me carry some of the cases back to the van.

"I think he might have already found her." Otto said quietly but I still heard him.

"What?" Otto smirked.

"Oh nothing." He said before getting back on the bus. I did my once over of the venue and got onto the bus.

"Hey Isla! How's your Mario kart skills?" Geoff shouted to me and I laughed walking over to him and Jawn.

"God awful! Last time I played it I was 14!" He laughed.

"Well Jawn is kicking my ass, so can you be an easy component whilst he goes to shower. Heal my bruised ego." I laughed and took the Nintendo switch remote from Jawn.

I was awful.

"So Geoff tell me about yourself! I know hardly anything about you." I said trying to distract him so I could catch up. It didn't work though.

"Erm I'm in this band called waterparks." I laughed and drove off the road into the sea.

"Well, I was born in California, but obviously I live in Houston now. I live my girlfriend called Chloe, who you'll glad to hear is vegan." I smiled, okay so my plan to distract Geoff backfired, I was the one being distracted.

"Aww that's awesome!" Geoff won the game.

"I told you I was awful!" I laughed and so did Geoff.

"It's okay, you're still cool!" He held his fist out for me to bump, which I did.

"I probably shouldn't say this but I think Awsten really likes you." I looked at him confused.

"What do you mean?" I asked.

"The way he looks at you. Also he hasn't punched anyone for years! He obviously cares about you." I tried to shrug his comment off.

"He's just caring. He has a sister so he's protective of girls that's all." Geoff shook his head.

"Trust me Isla he likes you." I sighed.

"He shouldn't." Geoff looked at me weirdly as if to say what are you talking about.

"He's been hurt by so many girls and I just know that I'm destructive, plus I live in a different country to him. I don't see us having a future." Quite honestly I didn't see myself having a future, but I wasn't going to tell Geoff that.

"Isla if Awsten wants something he's not going to let an ocean get in his way. But it's not my business."
