Audrey
It was around 7:45, and I was dressing for my date. I decided on a white bodysuit, a leather jacket, and skinny jeans.
Samuel texted me letting me know he was outside.
That's a first. Usually when guys take me out they come to my door. Samuel didn't bother getting out the car.
I grabbed my coat and left my apartment, I didn't bother telling Deidra where I was going. Her and I haven't really been seeing eye to eye lately.
Once I reached Sam's car, he noticed me standing there and unlocked the doors.
Ok...
I opened the car door and sat in the passenger's seat.
"Hey." I greeted him.
"You look good." He said in response.
"Thanks.."
"I'm surprised you're even here. I know your fancy job with that rapper could have you busy-"
"Sam please. Let's not talk about that."
"Alright, Alright. Hope you're hungry."
"Sure am." I chuckled.
"Me too. Shit, this Applebee's bout to hit the spot."
Applebee's?
Surely I heard incorrectly.
"I'm sorry, what?" I asked him.
"This Applebee's bout to hit the spot. They onion rings bang." He assured me.
There's no damn way he's taking me to— no.
"What made you decide on Applebee's?" I asked him, in a curious way— trying not to sound rude.
"My home boy work there, he can get me a lil discount. You feel me?"
"Mhm." I responded nodding my head.
I guess Sam could feel the awkward tension in the air like I did, so he turned on the radio. It was commercial after commercial, until a rather familiar tune began blaring through the speakers.
I recognized the beat, I couldn't quite figure it out though. I listened to the lyrics,
Young nigga in a jungle full of snakes
None of you niggas got what it takes,I tried my hardest to remember. When have I heard this?
"Every time I turn on this fuckin radio- my bad if you like this song, I'm just tired of hearing it." Samuel ranted. He went on and on and finally I realized,
This is Nathan's song! The song we'd heard when I was taking him to my apartment. He sounds a lot different when he's rapping.
Now intrigued, I listened to some more of the song but as soon as I could..click. Sam turned the radio off.
"I'm plugging in the aux, I'm tired of that song." He muttered.
He connected his phone and played some Gucci Mane, after that a tuned out.
My phone vibrated on my lap.
| Nathan: |
How's the date?I rolled my eyes at the text. If he were here I know just the tone he'd use when saying that. After just a week a feel like I know so much about Nathan, but also so little.
| Me: |
We're in the car as of now, we going to Applebee's.| Nathan: |
Lmfaoooo. Broke nigga alert 🚨 broke nigga alert 🚨!!!| Me: |
Don't judge us 🙄I sent the text and turned my phone screen off. We finally pulled up to Applebee's, and Sam parked right in the front.
"Let's eat." He said smiling. I now felt a little guilty for in-my-head judging Sam. I can't count other people's money just like they can't count mine.
I decided for the rest of the night, I'll keep a positive, open mind about this date.
As I followed Sam into the restaurant, I saw I had a text from Nathan. Without reading it, I turned my phone off and put it in my purse.
Nathan "Menace"
Audrey didn't answer my text. I'm not gonna lie, I had fun with her this morning. Now she on this wack ass date with this broke joke Samuel.
Being bored as hell, I went downstairs and opened up my cabinet. I dug to the back and found my little bottle of Virginia Black. Audrey must've missed this when she was cleaning everything out.
I retrieved a glass from the cabinet and poured my self a drink, filling the glass to the top. What Audrey doesn't know won't hurt her, and it's just one drink..it won't hurt me either.
Well, after I finished that drink I wanted another, and another..until I finished the bottle.
It was now a quarter til nine, I grabbed my phone and checked my notifications. I scrolled through them and looked for Audrey's name. Nothing.
Just as I was gonna turn off the screen and go upstairs, a call flashed on my screen. The buzz must've been just now hitting me, because the screen was blurry and giving me an headache. Without looking at who it was, I answered.
"H-hello?"
"Hey you." A female voice said to me. The tone was seductive. I wasn't romantically involved with any one at the moment, so I figured it must be Audrey. Guess her little date got cut short.
"Hey Audrey.." I replied, feeling her vibe.
She sucked her teeth and sighed.
"This is Danielle, Nathan. Are you drunk?"
"I-I'm not drunk, Swear fo god I'm not. I miss you." I rambled. I don't really miss Danielle, but a nigga is bored.
"Welllll do ya want me to come over?"
"Come on." I replied.
Audrey
"So after that I fought him." Sam said, completing is story.
"Wow." I chuckled. The story was interesting, but it was the fifth one tonight.
"Can I be honest with you Audrey? Like, brutally honest."
"Uh sure.."
God don't whatever he's about to say ruin the date. The food wasn't great, there's a loud ass family at the table across from us, but our conversation wasn't that bad.
"Well, I originally wanted to take you out to prove a point to my friends, but I'm really having a nice time. I wish I would've paid more attention to you when we saw each other every day, I really feel like there's something there. Do you feel like that?"
I thought. Just a few weeks ago I would've probably dropped to my knees and said, "Yes! I've always felt like that!"
Because it's true, I've always had something for Sam. But now, I just wasn't feeling it. Especially after telling me our date was just to prove a point, this nigga didn't care about me until he thought I could do better.
If only I would've had the guts to say that to him.
"I mean..yeah. I guess I feel that."
Audrey..
"That's a relief, I was starting to think you wasn't really into a nigga for real. If you give me a chance, our second date will be even better than this one. I want to show you how good I can treat you."
I fucked up so badly.
