It was eight in the evening when I arrived at the filming house and I was feeling lethargic and lazy. It was after all, a Friday evening and everybody in school had gone out to start their weekend except me who had to report for understudy. But that was how it was with filming or with any kind of work, especially those that drew no distinctions between weekdays and weekends or day and night for the same matter. For Ji-hye who had clocked up a total of twenty hours already, I was way too far behind with my four hours. Not that I was complaining.
Filming would be taken place at night today. So I guess I could expect more lightings and equipment. When I arrived in the house this time, Yoojin-ssi told me that they would first be filming in the basement cellar indoors. I could choose to stay put and wait or go down into the cellar. Of course, I would go into the cellar. Why would I want to be waiting around in the garden with people I didn't know? And besides, it was turning cold.
I was beginning to regret choosing the house as my theme study. The three hours traveling here and another three to go home was no joke at all. Not only was it burning my pocket, the hours spent were taxing. I hoped that they would finish on time else I would end up having to cab home again.
I followed some of the guys into the house. I was taken aback by how extravagant the interior of the house was. I later found out that all these were part of the props. They didn't actually belonged to the house. I wondered how much money was spent on the props... Looking at the interior, I couldn't help thinking if this was really a house belonging to someone, this someone must be a very rich person. The furniture were of high standard posh leather; the crystal chandelier dazzled even under the light; each and every piece of furniture were of high calibre and quality.
The house had two storeys and one which led to the basement cellar. This cellar was huge enough to hold two of my dormitory bedrooms. The selection of wine was also impressive (although I did found out later that all of them were fake except for those used for filming). The set had been set up by the stairs and both the lead cast had already arrived.
Park Shin-hye was wearing a red checkered shirt underneath a brown cardigan. She had her hair tied up in a loose pony tail. Lee Min-ho was dressed in a flowery sweater which felt very warm and comfortable and yellow pants. That was one thing about Korean fashion - the guys dressed in really interesting stuff but they still looked extremely good.
There wasn't much of an action in this scene. It was basically Park Shin-hye talking on the phone. However, there was much about character acting which I could learn. No words but plenty of expression. They were supposed to act deep in thoughts.
"CUT!"
"Alright, well done," the director said as he stood up from his director chair. "Next scene." Surprisingly, this short little scene was done within an hour. I must really learn to appreciate the hard work behind the scenes. A minute on screen could easily take up to hours of hard work!
Anyway, everybody started packing up and moving out back into the gardens. Since I didn't know what I could do, I decided to make myself helpful and carried a couple of the equipment out. One of the technicians smiled a thanks to me. To my surprise, I saw Lee Min-ho folding up his sleeves to help as well. Since he was a guy, he picked up the relatively heavier and longer items. That really surprised me. I believed it wasn't expected of them stars to help out. It wasn't their job anyway. But he volunteered anyway. That was my first understanding of him as a person. He had no airs - he was a helpful person.
