Seraphina's POV:
Charlene didn't even glance in my direction, she only either stared out of the window or talk with Ebony. Derek tried to make conversation with her and Ebony, but only the latter replied. What kind of person doesn't even look at their brother?
As I got off the train, I remembered that this year we would ride the carriages to Hogwarts instead of boats. Catherine had told me how they're actually pulled by thestrals and how you can only see them if you've seen death. I counted myself lucky that I wouldn't be able to see them, and I hope that I never do.
Derek, Mia and I shared a carriage with Remus, Charlene was luckily in a different one from us. "Hey! I'm Remus!" He said, introducing himself to Derek as they had never met before.
"Derek."
"Malfoy? Isn't it?"
"Yeah." Remus looked suspiciously at him. "-But I'm not like my sister, grandpa, great grandfather."
"He wouldn't have been put in Hufflepuff if he was!" Mia inputted. Remus smile slid back onto his face.
"It's nice to meet you Derek."
"You too."
We waited, sitting on our correct tables, waiting for the doors to open and for the first years to walk into the room for the first time. I wondered how many would join Hufflepuff and sit on the spare part of the bench next to me. I hoped it would be many. The door finally opened and, with Mrs. Kettlepot leading them, the first years walked down the gap between the tables, looking up at the enchanted ceiling just as we had and then glancing confusedly at the old hat and stool that sat in front of the staff table. You didn't know how you were sorted until it actually happened, it was part of Hogwarts tradition. The hat sang its song, and one by one, they were sorted, a Mariene Lottus, Killian Johnes and Fryla Hart, as well as a few others, were sorted into Hufflepuff. As one girl was being sorted, Puella Obitus, Derek frowned a little. "What is it?"
"Nothing, I just think I know that name."
Soon the sorting ceremony was over and, after Mcgonagall's speech, we were feasting on almost every kind of food you could imagine, how I missed Hogwarts during the summer. My mum was a good cook, but even she could never manage to make her food taste this good! "How was your summer?" Carrie, a third year Hufflepuff, asked me.
"It was pretty great, but nothing beats Hogwarts food."
"Yeah, well, except maybe my father's. It's his dream to be a famous chef in the Muggle world. - Hes a muggle if you didn't already know."
"My mums a muggle too, she's a doctor."
"I've never been to a muggle hospital, my parents always make me go to a wizard one if I'm sick. What's it like?"
"It's pretty much like a wizard one, just without the magic."
"So it's nothing like a wizard hospital?" I laughed.
"Yeah, I guess not."
"Can you believe that we're allowed to try out for the quidditch team this year? Are you trying out?"
"Yep."
"Cool! What position? I'm trying out for chaser."
"I'm going for seeker."
"As long as you're better than our current one."
I finished the rest of the food on my plate and stood up. "I'm going to our common room, see how many first years got the password wrong."
"Gosh, I hope it's not too many! Otherwise our room will smell of vinegar for a long time, and I don't particularly like the scent. Bye!"
"Bye!"
