"Are you gonna be mute all night, or what?"

I let out a sigh, shuffling further from Caleb on the couch.

"Fuck off," I muttered.

Caleb had come home from work, and he'd seriously had the nerve to bitch about me not having any food ready like I was his fucking maid or something.

And not only that, but he'd kept on dropping hints throughout the more-than awkward dinner about our argument the night before.

I'd moped around, overthinking my whole relationship with Caleb and generally feeling terrible that whole day.

Evidently, I was pissed off more than anything now. I had started out sad, but then I realized that I was more mad than upset. Caleb was acting like a child and I was over it.

So, I settled for ignoring his existence instead of getting wound up about his stupid mood swings.

"Look - there's no need to be a little bitch, okay?" he started.

"This doesn't sound like the beginning of an apology, so I'd rather you shut up now before you say some dumb shit and I'm forced to smack you across the face," I cut in immediately.

"Let me finish! As I was saying: there's no need to be a bitch about what happened. Everything I said was true! And-"

I interrupted him again: "Yeah. Yelling at me for trying to be nice and a good friend is entirely reasonable. Actually - I'm the one who should be apologizing, can you ever forgive me?"

"Your sarcasm isn't gonna get us anywhere," Caleb snapped and I just rolled my eyes.

"Again: true. Good thing you insulting me is. Please continue."

"I'm trying to explain, but you won't let me!" he exclaimed, "What I'm trying to say is that you don't have to get butthurt over trivial stuff like that. I mean, I'm giving you a place to live and all that. You've known me long enough to know I tend to talk out of my ass."

"Yeah, look how happy everyone here is. Danny is terrified and Matt hates you. Look how happy I am. I've been sitting here all day, feeling terrible - because of you, mind you - and you don't even think to ask if I'm okay, maybe give me a hug. Some best friend you are."

I could see Caleb's facial expression soften at that, "Well you haven't asked for a hug."

"I shouldn't have to!" I replied.

"For fuck's sake, would you just come here?" Caleb groaned.

"Why?!"

"Because!" he said, "I don't know if you've noticed, but I don't exactly offer out hugs that often."

"What makes you think I even want one?" I scoffed, but I was already turning around and leaning into Caleb, because yeah - I definitely wanted one.

I let out a sigh as I leaned against his chest, listening to his heartbeat and he wrapped his arms around me.

"I'm sorry, alright? What I said yesterday was uncalled for. I'm just... confused. And I was kinda... trying to lighten the mood at dinner, I guess," he mumbled into my hair and I softly hit his shoulder with the back of my hand,

"You're a douchebag."

"I know."

"You're a big douchebag."

"I know."

I couldn't believe what a pushover I was sometimes.

Yell at me for being nice, then give me a hug the next day and I'll forgive you.
