Caleb
It was really, really fucking painful when the sound of the phone ringing woke Finn and myself the next morning. I had the day off for Christ sakes, and the fact that it was still dark in the room told me just how early it was, without even needing to look at the clock.
Finn stirred and grumbled something at me, nuzzling into my side with a sleepy huff as he willed the noise to go away.
Whoever was calling, they were fucking insistent, and so I eventually groaned out loud and shuffled my torso half off the bed, arm that wasn't tucked around Finn's shoulders fumbling on the bedside table for the phone.
I found it, and the ringing got worse when it neared my ear, finger pressing the green button impatiently as I held the device to my ear.
"Hello?"
"Caleb?"
It was so, so fucking hard not to groan out loud. But then again what had I expected? Who else would call me at the crack of dawn like this?
"Hey mom, what's up?"
"I hope I didn't wake you?"
I rolled my eyes, and then they flickered down to watch my boyfriend cuddle a little closer to me,
"No Mom, it's fine."
"Good," she said, "Listen, your father and I want to come visit you. We've barely talked since Christmas, it's been ages since we last visited!"
I had known it was coming. My parents never, ever called, unless it was to announce a visit. It was one on a long list of their annoying habits.
Knowing it was coming didn't make it any less shitty though, and looking down at Finn, I wondered how the the younger boy was going to react to the news. Suppressing a sigh, I raked my fingers through my boyfriend's messy hair.
"That'd be awesome," I replied, and it sounded very flat but apparently my mom didn't pick up on it, "When are you coming?"
At that Finn stirred. He tilted his head on my chest to look up to me, eyes questioning but a little guarded. I just sighed, ran my thumb over his bottom lip.
"Today. We wont be long, as we need to see your brother as well. Is lunch time okay for you dear?"
No time was okay for their visits but, I decided not to mention that one.
"Sure," I confirmed, and Finn sighed beneath me, buried his head in my shoulder dramatically.I would have laughed if I didn't feel exactly the same as he did.
"Good well, we'll see you soon then," she said, before adding, "And Finn."
She hung up the phone, but my stomach dropped a little at the way she had said Finn's name. With such distaste. I knew she would be even more critical of him after her last visit. She couldn't stand being stood up to and I knew she would be taking her frustrations out on Finn again.
Right then I knew today was going to be a bad day.
I put the phone down with a sigh, and when I had laid down again, Finn was pushed up on his forearms, looking at me with about fifty different emotions swirled on his face."Don't look at me like that," I sighed, "I couldn't say no, they're my parents."
I felt like shit when the younger boy didn't answer, when he just gave me a weak smile and moved out of the grip we'd had on each other. I watched the younger crawl to the end of the bed and get on his feet, padding into the en suite bathroom.
So much for fucking sleeping in today.
Sighing heftily once more and rubbing at my face, I swung my own legs out of bed and pulled on some jeans and a shirt, sending a glance towards the clock.
