Mac hasn't called, but he did surprise me today with one of the sweetest gestures I have ever received in my entire life. I was so excited and touched that I just stood there staring in disbelief. Right next to the time clock was a large plastic cup with a lid and straw. The cup was filled with the tea that I raved about on our date. It was icy cold and just as tasty as I remembered.

Next to the cup was a lavender sticky note that said, 'Fern, I had a fantastic time with you. Enjoy your tea.' It was signed simply, 'Mac.' I couldn't believe that he had done something so thoughtful for me. I still can't quite fathom it. Had he brought it to our makeshift little supply hut? I couldn't imagine him going in there. He had probably sent someone to deliver it. It still must have been his idea, though, and it was impossibly sweet.

It made my day that he had done such a simple, but kind thing for me. I left my tea in the dorm-sized refrigerator in the hut and stopped by to sip on it periodically throughout my work shift. I savored each drink and tried to make it last. It's not like I'll be going back to The Chef's Table any time soon, so it will likely be my last dose of that liquid gold.

I tucked the note into the pocket of my khaki shorts for safekeeping. I couldn't chance leaving it in the hut for fear that someone might accidentally throw it away. I planned to keep it forever.

Speaking of the note, when Mac told me that pink must be my color because I looked beautiful in my dress, I mentioned briefly that my favorite color was actually lavender. Could he have remembered that and sent me a note on lavender paper on purpose? Nah, no man is that attentive. I'm sure it was just a coincidence.

In any case, he made my day. I hope he calls me soon.
