Halfborn's POV:
I stood at the rudder, Magnus next to me. Mallory had gone below to check on T.J. and make supper.
What happened earlier played through my head, that and all the fights Mal and I had had lately.
Ragnarok has led to bickering and fighting more then usual. Some of the things she said hurt, though I returned the favor.
"I'm fine." I said, "hmm?" Magnus glanced over. "You were going to ask if I was okay," I clarified, "that's why your standing here right? I'm fine." I was honestly saying this more to convince my self that I was fine.
"I'll admit it was strange walking through the streets of Fläm, thinking how I grew up there in a little hit with my mom. Prettier then I remembered. And I may have wondered what it would have been like if I'd stayed, gotten married, had a life."
Without Mallory Keen though.
"And when Baugi insultes the place, I lost it. I wasn't expecting to have feelings about being home." I wished Mal would have come into Fläm with me. I saw how Magnus looks at Fierro, why could she had gone with them.
"It's not like I expect anybody to write a ballad about me saving my hometown." The details would have probably been stretched to much for my liking anyway.
"I'm glad to be out of that place again. I don't regret my choices when I was alive, even if I did leave my mom behind and never saw her again."
I do miss my mom, she had been a kind, brave woman. Speaking of mothers, "and Mallory meeting her own mother."
"That didn't raise any particular emotions in me. I'm just glad Mack found out he truth, even if she did run off on a wild train without telling us, and could've gotten herself killed."
For real this time, I hated the thought of her being out of my life, even though we were fighting, I couldn't think of my afterlife without the red head. "And I never would've known what happened to her."
"Oh and you and Sam of course." Sam and Magnus were important to me as well.
I slapped the rudder handle with a thought, "but curse that vixen! What was she thinking? The daughter of Frigg?" I laughed out of the fear of losing her and the frustration of us fighting. "No wonder she's so..."
I trailed off, so, what? So perfect, flawless, beautiful? I patted Magnus' shoulder. "Thanks, Magnus. I'm glad we had this talk." I honestly felt better. "Your alright for a healer."
"Take the rudder will you? Just stay in the middle and watch out for krakens." I say stepping away to leave, "krakens?" Magnus asked, I nodded then went below to check on Mack, I mean dinner.
Below I headed to the kitchen finding Mallory there hunched over some sandwiches, a piece of hair in her face, I wanted ever so desperately to push it away. Though I would lose a hand in the process. I let out a sigh.
"Yeah Mack." I say making my presence known. "How's T.J.?" I ask hoping he wasn't too mad still. "Why don't you go ask him?" She replied not looking up. I reached for a sandwich, "that's not done yet," she said snatching the sandwich away, "they look done." I replied. She rolled her eyes and her face got a tint of red.
I reached for a tomato and started slicing them. We worked in silence, "What do you want Gunderson?" She asked throwing down the piece of lettuce she was working with.
"A sandwich." I say with a grin, knowing well that's not what she meant.
"You know what I mean, oaf." She said losing her patience. "Just wanted to check up on ya." I say looking up from the tomato I had finished chopping. "I don't need you to check up of me. I'm fine." She said, how those words "I'm fine" reminded me of what I had been trying to convince myself earlier.
"You sure, I'm here for you if you want." I said hoping for some peace, "I said I was fine Gunderson!" She yelled grabbing a sandwich she went to her room, slamming the door behind her.
I thought I herd a muffled sob as a passed by on the way to my own room with a sandwich.A/N
