Halfborn's POV:
The news hit hard. Erik from floor 26 faded. He had been the only person I was close to who had been here as long as I had.
I kept in my room, I didn't want to be seen. My head hurt, I cut my limbs off and cursed when I woke up in my bed fine a few hours later.
I sunk to the floor and cradled my head, tears came from my eyes.
"Halfborn?" Mallory's voice came through my door.
"Gunderson? You've missed dinner. You haven't come out all day."
"Oaf? This isn't funny." I could here to worry on her voice.
"Idiot! Let me in!" She pounded on the door for hours. Before she too became silent.
Feeling the skull-crushing need to leave, I walk out of my room. Quietly stepping over the sleeping Irish-woman in front of my door.
I walked out of the hotel, thankful for the cover of night, and found my way to a crowded bar.
The bartender was so busy he just took my order and gave me my drink.
I stared at the countertop, it had scars of many bar-fights and other fun nights. Then here I was 1,200 years of dying and living. Killing and training. Without a single mark to show for it.
I downed my drink and ordered another. I had so much blood on my hands, sure most of the people I killed woke up fine. It still felt wrong.
I couldn't do it anymore. I'm done, done, done.
I drowned my sorrows in alcohol. I didn't notice the crowd thining. I didn't notice when someone shouted my name. I couldn't focus, my head hurt and I had given up.

Mallory's POV:
I woke up with a start, Halfborn's door was open and it was night.
I searched his room and quickly found he wasn't there.
Without thinking too much I made ran out the hotel and into the late night streets. Narrowly avoiding getting hit by cars, I tried to think where he would go.
I ran and searched for hours, I checked the parks. I checked the Chase Place. I checked the public library.
Finally I ran past a bar, something caught my eye. I stopped in my tracks and nearly fell on my face.
There was the berserker sitting in a bar, head in the table.
"Halfborn!" I cry, bursting into the bar.
       "You stupid idiot, do you-"
"Leave me alone!" The drunken Halfborn drew his battle axe.
"Oaf? What's-" He attacked, I just had enough time to draw my knives and counter the attack.
He swung again, I caught his blade with my knives. Quickly disarming him, he sunk to the floor before my eyes.
I'd seen Halfborn Gunderson at his weakest but this took the cake. I knelt next to him.
       "Halfborn, what's wrong?"
"I can't do it anymore. No more. No more fading friends." He blubbered, my heart broke.
"Hey, I'm not letting you leave me here with Jefferson and Beantown. Alex is fine, but Jefferson-"
      "I can't."
"Halfborn Gunderson! Get a hold of yourself! I've known you for 46 years. And I've never heard the words, 'I can't' come out of your mouth. I've watched you run bare chested into battle. You've defeated millions of monsters. You've written countless PHDs. Not to mention you've done the impossible, you've gotten me to fall in love, you stupid rag-doll."
             "But, Erik-"
"Erik made his choice. He was strong but not strong enough. You are freakin Berserker. You are going to die the most glorious death at Ragnarok."
        "I've lost so much."
"But you've gained so much too. You have Magnus, Alex, TJ, Sam, Hearth, Blitz, and I."
       "Let's go home."
"Can we not, for tonight." Halfborn finally stopped trembling and sobbing.
"Okay, I've got an idea." He leaned on me and we walked to a hill in the park. It was secluded, as people weren't supposed to be here.
Halfborn sat next to me and we watched the stars, well more so the airplanes, but it was till nice.
Halfborn soon passed out from all the alcohol he had had. I kissed his head and laid down next to him. Wrapping my arms around him tightly.
