A/N
I was going through my old notifications and I found a suggestion that I didn't really know what to do with until now. A special thanks to TheLilLeopard for the idea and the wait!
Halfborn's POV:
This thesis was coming along slowly. I'd been working on it for sixteen years and I just couldn't sit down and finish it.
"Ugh." I sighed and rubbed my face, flicking off pieces of breakfast from my beard.
I hear a pair of footsteps running towards me. I glance around in my chair. My girlfriend is the owner of the footsteps and she's sobbing.
Mallory wraps her arms around me and sobs into my neck.
"Umm...Mack?" I poke her back. Her response is a jumble of sobs and sniffles.
"Mallory? What's wrong?" I try again.
"I stepped on Magnus' finger!" She wailed.
I stared at her. Mallory wouldn't normally cry over something like this. No einherji cries for other people's small pain.
"Are you feeling okay?" I asked, feeling her forehead. We were dead, and couldn't get sick. So I don't know if I was truly expecting to feel a fever. Then again Mallory Keen was crying over Magnus' hurt finger. All logic had gone out the window.
"You don't understand me!" She cried and ran out of the library.
I blinked once.
Twice.
Thrice.
I tried to make sense of what just happened. Grateful for the distraction, I gathered my papers and left the library.
In the elevator I whistled to "My Way" by Frank Sinatra translated into Old Norse.
As the elevator dinged open a knife flew. Pinning my papers into the wall.
"You stupid, stupid, sorry, excuse for a ragdoll!" Mallory's voice came, and she sounded pissed.
"Now what, Keen? Did you hurt Magnus' feelings?" I asked jokingly.
"That pathetic blonde can go cry me a river." She spat.
"Okay." I said simply, left my papers in the elevator and went to my room. Deciding that the thesis wasn't going anywhere and was a waste of my time.
A knife was at my throat. Mallory held it in one hand and it's twin in the other, having apparently retrieved it from the elevator.
"You think you can mock me, Gunderson?" She eyes blazed with anger from hel.
"Yes, I do." I push past her, a second later I hear a thunk and I see nothing but darkness.———-
I blinked a few times, dazed. An important skill in Valhalla is being able to tell what is real and what is dream/trick. What happened with Mallory was definitely real, shockingly.
Walking out of my room I see a very scared looking TJ and Magnus peaking out from TJ's room.
"Halfborn!" TJ hissed at me. His hands waving wildly, beckoning for me to join them.
"What's wrong with Mack?" He asks as he shuts and locks his door behind me.
"She stepped on my finger and started bawling. Then I saw her later and she was smiling, skipping, and humming down the hallway." Magnus whispered, looking as if he'd seen a ghost.
"I saw her hiding behind a plant in the lobby. Later Alex and I saw her yelling at people. When Alex approached her Mack screamed at her and cut her in half!" TJ added in a hushed tone as well.
"Why are we whispering?" I asked raising my voice a bit. My two hall mates quickly shushed me.
"Your girlfriend has gone crazy! She could be anywhere. Hunting us like a deranged leopard." TJ hissed, eyeing the door like he could see the red head through the solid wood.
"She's not the only one on this floor that's deranged." I say, TJ and Magnus share a glare.
A loud crash is heard from outside. My two hallmates jump and freeze, fear in their eyes, as we turn to the door.
Magnus drops to his stomach and peeks underneath..
"What the..." the blonde whispers.
"What is it!" TJ hisses.
"Oh, this is ridiculous!" I state, pushing them aside and throwing open the door.
Before me was, the oddest thing I had ever seen. That in itself was a statement, having lived over a thousand years.
A red faced Mallory Keen had a giggling Mallory Keen in a headlock.
"You think you can laugh like that at me! I'm not here for your amusement, freckles!" The angry Mal snapped.
The victim Mal between laughs said,
"Come one now, it's a beautiful day. Why spend it picking fights?"
A sobbing redhead came from the hallway. Using the backs of both her hands to wipe snot from under her nose. Beside her was yet another one. This one had fear in her green and orange speckled eyes. She also seemed to be visibly shaking in fear.
I heard TJ and Magnus gasp behind me. The Mallories (a/n plural?) did too, snapping their heads towards us simultaneously.
"Got something to say, idiots?" Angry Mal snapped, dropping Happy Mal and drawing her knives.
"Violence solves little. Let's sit down and talk about what we're feeling." Happy Mal smiled at her own idea.
"I feel sad. It's my fault Magnus' finger hurts! I'm sorry Beantown!" Sad Mal wailed.
"Get your self together! While you're at it maybe do something with that hair of yours." Angry Mal stated, even though she had the same hair as the Irish woman she just insulted.
