Mallory's POV:
I don't know how we decided this, but here we were, floor 19 prepping for a 14 mile hike. Magnus was a bit too excited for this. He was looking at the map and talking excitedly about a bridge over some rapids. Great.
Alex wasn't acting as giddy but his eyes (he told us he was male today) showed that he was just as excited as Beantown.
TJ, ever the drop of sunshine shouldered his backpack, filled with his share of snacks and water, without complaint.
My boyfriend next to me muttered something about a PHD he would rather be doing. Though he was dressed in appropriate, jeans, t-shirt (that may or may not compliment his biceps) and some hiking boots.
Naturally because Halfborn didn't want to do it, I teased him and acted like I wanted to go.
"Come on you baby, the boring paper will be there when we get back." I say, straightening my green bandana, that was keeping my unruly hair off my neck and out of my eyes.
"Shut up woman." He said.
"Don't call me woman, you over grown whale!"
"Whale? What kind of whale? A sperm whale?" He countered. I could feel my face match my hair.
"Eeww, oaf, yuck." I gagged a bit.
"Come on love birds, lets get moving!" Magnus called.
"Here we go." I say and start marching forward with my green, Valhalla issued backpack.
It was a nice day, the sun was shining, a cool breeze blew and there was hardly a cloud in sight.
Magnus and Alex were at the front, making small talk. This of course consisted of Alex insulting Magnus, and Magnus making terrible comebacks.
TJ brought up the rear, as he was distracted by nearly everything.
"Guys look at this rock! It almost looks like shield!" He called from behind.
"Jefferson, it looks like every single other rock out here!" Halfborn told him.
"Hey, look guys I see rare beasts! The idiots!" I say pointing at Halfborn and TJ. "There brain capacity is much smaller then the average mammal."
"Very funny Keen. But guess what? I see an Irish Vixen, who has the brain capacity of a-"
I threw the shield rock at him.
"Oww." He complained. TJ and I broke into laughs.
The normal bickering went on for a a few hours and soon the cool breeze died down and it began to feel hot and humid.
"Let's stop for lunch." I suggested, dropping to the ground and taking off my bag.
"Guess we'll take break." Magnus adds a bit glumly.
We all eat out sandwiches in the shade of a large maple tree. Halfborn muttered a few curses as he splashed water on his beard. His attempt to cool his face was futile.
I finished my apple, and took a swig of water. Taking an extra ponytail binder from my wrist, I walk behind Halfborn.
"What are you doing woman?" He demands, turning around to face me.
"Shut up oaf." I say, and wordlessly put his hair into a bun, at the back of his head to get it off his neck.
"There," I announce then add a flower without his knowledge.
"That it much cooler. Thanks, I'll reward you." He then tried to kiss me with his sweaty beard and mouth.
"Yuck!" I quickly dodge it.
"Let's pack up, we are only have 5 miles left." Magnus announces chirpily.
"Only 5 more miles." I mock in a high voice. Halfborn chuckles, grabbing my bag and holding it out for me to take.
We hiked the rest in comfortable small talk. When the trail finally ended, we stated in aw at the site in front of us.
Before us was a sheer cliff overlooking a waterfall. It was beautiful.
"Think I could survive if I jump?" Halfborn asks looking over the edge.
"You can try but, I'm not hauling your fat arse back to Valhalla." I say.
Halfborn smirks, then grabs me by the waist and swings me over the cliff.
"Gunderson!" I scream, digging my nails into his arms.
"Don't do that Mack, I might drop you."
"Halfborn!" I blow my hair out of my hair.
Finally he sets me down, I can't stand up straight, I was so dizzy.
"Oaf." I say and knock him in the shoulder.
He just laughs. We all sit at the side of the cliff, our feet over the edge, watching the sun set.
After what seemed like forever, we stood up and began our hike back. With the sun down, it was much cooler. Halfborn still kept his hair in his bun, the flower still securely tucked in.
At about halfway, I began to fall asleep, I continued to trip and stumble on my tired legs.
Halfborn suddenly picked me up, carrying me on his back.
"I can walk oaf." I mutter, moving to get down.
"You are going to fall and smash your head." He says to me, I don't argue any more. Leaning my head against his backpack that he still had on. I began to fall asleep, the sound of the waterfall and Halfborn's breathing still in my head.
