21 - Mom?

"Daddy? Mandy? What are you doing?"

I snapped my head away from Chris's at the sound of the young voice. Before turning to face the door, I grabbed my top from the end of the bed. I put it on, Chris still had a look of panic on his face. "Babe, its time to tell him. I'm sure he will understand and be happy about us. He's a great 4 year old." I turn around and faced the child, he was carrying his toy elephant and had a tear stained face. "Hey Dougy. What's wrong? Are you okay?"

He walked towards me and climbed on the bed. "I had a nightmare Mandy. And what were you and Daddy doing kissing without your t-shirts on?"

"Awwww Baby." I wrapped my arms around him to comfort him. "Firstly, what was your nightmare about?"

"Daddy got hurt and never came home. I lived with just you, but I missed Daddy so much. Then one day you disappeared and I was living with these two really horrible people who hurt me."

"Baby. That will never happen. I promise you. We will always be here for you. Both of us will." I held him close to my chest, his nightmare hurt me. I didn't know if I would be able to keep his promise. It was like his mom. No one knew she was going to pass away so suddenly. I knew I couldn't actually promise that we would both be there forever. I kissed his forehead and looked at Chris. He was sat frozen still. Holding Douglas close to me with one arm, I picked up his tank top from under his pillow and threw it at him. "Put it on Chris." I said sternly. He came out of his frozen stance and put the top on. He then shuffled over to me and rubbed his son's back.

"Thank you Mandy. Thank you Daddy."

"Anything for you my baby boy." Chris said giving his son a kiss on the top of his head.

"Why did you have your tops off? Why were you kissing?" Doug asked looking up at us worried.

"Doug don't be worried." I said seeing it in his eyes.

"Dougy, Mandy's my girlfriend. I love her a lot. Just like I loved your mom a lot, before she died. And maybe one day we will get married, and she will officially be your step-mom."

"I love your dad so much Doug. And I love you too. You are my family and I can't wait to be a step-mom to you for the rest of my life. Even if we don't get married, I will always be here for you."

Doug looked up at us, now with excitement. "I get a real mom again?" He smiled at me. I nodded, smiling back at him. "I love you Daddy." He left my lap and gave Chris a big hug.

"I love you too Doug. Mandy and I will always be here for you, no matter what. One of us is there." He gave his son a kiss before passing him back to me.

"I love you Mandy. So, so much. I'm so happy I have a proper mom again. I love you mama." Before I could say anything Doug gave me one of his little kisses on the lips. I just looked up at Chris scared. His son had just called me mama and kissed my lips, something he only ever did with Chris, because I wasn't his actual mom. I didn't know what to do.

"It's okay Mandy. I'm happy with this, mi familia. This is my family now. You and Doug. V is still part of this family and will always be a big part of my life. But you are massive part of my family now. You are my girlfriend and mi amor."

I smiled and nodded at him. I turned back to Doug. "I love you so much Doug. So, so much. I love you like you were my own child. You are the best kid ever and I'm never letting go of you or you dad. I have the perfect family right here. I love you both with my whole heart and I wouldn't change either of my boys for the world." I gave Doug a kiss, like he had given me before giving Chris a longer one. "Babe go change your pants and we can snuggle up and sleep as family."

Chris climbed out of bed and changed. Once he returned I went and changed. We both laid in bed, Doug in between us. "I have the best step-mom and the best dad in the world." Doug said before giving us both kisses and falling back asleep cuddling his elephant.

"I love you Doug. I love you too Chris." I gave him a kiss before wrapping my arms around Doug falling asleep.
