12 - Lie in?

I woke up and felt strong arms around my waist. I looked across the room, I was definitely still in my my bed at least. I tried remembering last night, usually I get home from rehearsals at 5:30 with dinner ready for me to eat with Chris and Doug. The two of us put Douglas to bed at 7 after having a bit of family time. Chris and I then cuddle together on the couch watching TV or a movie, sometimes we play a board game. And then I head to bed myself at 10 ready for an early start of 6:45 the following morning. But I know that didn't happen. I looked down at the arms around me and smiled. I held onto them before turning around meeting Chris's eyes right in front of mine. "Good morning gorgeous." He said to me.

I wrapped my arms up and around his neck. "Good morning to you too handsome." I pulled myself closer to him so our lips met. I closed my eyes as our lips moved in sync with one another. After a few minutes of kissing we pulled apart, both smiling. "When did you join me? I like waking up with your arms around me, it gives me a sense of protection."

"Only about ten minutes ago. I've already taken Doug to pre-school. And since you have an off day finally, I have a very important question to ask you."

"Wait, what time is it? Did I miss my alarm? Poor Dougy."

"Mandy calm down babe. I turned your alarm off last night after you fell asleep. I wanted to let you have a lie in for once. You've been up early with Doug every day for the last 5 months or so. You deserve a break. I got him up, changed him, gave him breakfast and took him while you slept. It's about ten o'clock now." He brushed the curls out my face and stroked my cheek.

"Oh, okay. Did he miss me at all? Can I pick him up this afternoon since I didn't drop him off?"

"Of course you can pick him up. I just wanted to give you a bit of a break from doing everything. You are such a good mother figure for Doug, and I think you'd be an even better mom to your own child. You've worked so hard these last few months with long hours of rehearsals and you deserved a lie in. Also Doug did miss you this morning. He was asking where you were and thought you'd left too and weren't going to come back, like V. I had to let him peep through the door to show him that you were still there and that you were just asleep."

"I love Dougy so much. He gives me a purpose in life. A purpose to look after him, to make sure he's happy and that's he's okay. Of course there's you as well. You mean the world to me Chris, and you and Douglas are the lights of my life. I wouldn't have this life without your help in the park last year. I owe everything to you." Chris gave me a peck on the lips and simply smiled up at me. "Can I just ask what happened last night after I came home from rehearsals? I don't remember anything."

"I'm not surprised babe. You've had almost two months of 9 to 5 rehearsals. You came in, told me what you'd done that week, how you were doing 'no me diga' on Monday with the girls. 'Enough' and your scenes with Pricilla and Carlos on Tuesday and Wednesday then you wrapped up everything on Thursday by yourself. You told me that you had a free day today before we go back in together on Monday. After that you gave me a kiss, grabbed a cereal bar and you went to change because you were sweaty from rehearsals. I came to get you at quarter to six and you were asleep in bed. I didn't want to wake you. So I tucked you in, and turned off your alarm so you could lie in today."

"Oh Okay. I feel really bad for Doug now. He didn't even get a goodnight hug and kiss from me." I frowned slightly, upset that Doug had gone more than 24 hours without me.

"It's okay Mandy. It'll make it more special when we pick him up tonight and this weekend that we have all to ourselves to have some family time."

"Okay." I gave Chris another kiss before remembering something he said earlier. "Oh what was it you wanted to ask me."

"Follow me and I'll show you." Chris climbed out of bed and held an arm out to me. I took his hand and got myself up.

"Wait Chris, let me change real quick. I'm still in my rehearsal clothes. I never changed last night because I was so exhausted clearly."

"Okay babe. Call me when your ready and I'll come back in." I had a super quick shower because I stank from wearing the same thing to sleep in as I had worn for rehearsals. I then changed into a denim skirt and a thin strapped, flowing black top. I applied a little mascara before calling Chris back. I wondered what he wanted to ask me. He hadn't officially asked me to be his girlfriend yet, or asked me out on a date yet because I'd been so busy in rehearsals, so I could be either of those. Yes, we kissed a lot, and called each other 'babe' and 'gorgeous' and romantic things like that, but I didn't want to call him my boyfriend until he had actually asked me first.
