60 - Doug's Birthday Surprise?

I wake up to Doug jumping on Chris and I in bed.

"Mama, Daddy. It's my birthday!" He squealed.

I sat up in bed, not wanting him to hit my stomach accidentally. "I know dougy. You are such a big boy now. You are so grown up."

"Happy birthday baby boy, or should I say big boy." Doug giggled and nodded then sat between Chris and I on the bed. "Are you ready to open your presents."

"Yeah." We pass him the first box. He unwraps is to find a box of zoo themed Lego. "Yay. I really wanted this one." I smiled at Chris excited for him to open the final present. I was slightly starting to show but you could only tell if you were looking for it. Everyone in the theatre knew I was pregnant, everyone except my boyfriend. My siblings knew and so did Jane. Besides my father, everyone reacted so positively which made me happy. Doug opened his final present.

"Thank you Daddy, thanks Mama for all my presents I love them all."

"That's good Doug. Do you want to go get dressed and ready for school bud." Chris suggested.

"Wait. I have one more present for you Dougy. A very special present." I picked up the present from my bedside table and passed it to my stepson. Chris looked at me confused but I just smiled at him. Doug carefully unwrapped the paper.

"Oh it's another t-shirt, thanks mama." He side hugged me.

"What does it say?" I held it up as he read out.

"Big brother." Chris gasped out and looked at me.

"No way, are you really?" I smiled and nodded at him. I took the ultrasound, from the day before, out from the paper and passed it to him.

"This is from yesterday babe, my date with Karen, was actually a doctors appointment with her." He looked at the photo with awe in his eyes.

"I can't believe you're pregnant mi amor. Come here." He rested his hand in my cheek and pulled me into him, kissing my lips. "I love you, and I love our baby."

"I love you, our baby and Dougy so much." I give him another kiss.

"Mama, What does it mean in a big brother?"

"There's a baby in my tummy Dougy. You are going to have a baby sister or a baby brother."

"There's a baby in there?" He look and pointed a my stomach.

"Yeah, it's not very big yet. Only nine weeks so is about the size of your fist." I close his fist to demonstrate.

"Wow." He rested his head on my stomach. "Hello baby brother or sister. I'm Doug, your big brother. I love you lots you are the best sibling in the world. You're the best birthday present ever and I can't wait to meet you."

I held my hand over his head as he spoke, I feared up at his words. "The baby loves you too Doug. You're going to be the best big brother in the world. Do you want to look at the picture?"

"Yeah." Chris passes him the ultrasound he looks at it confused and then looks up at me. "Wow. That's in your tummy."

"Yeah. Now you need to go get dressed, or you'll be late for school. Do you think you can do it alone now you're 6."

"Yeah. I love you mama," He gave me a kiss. "I love you daddy," He gave Chris a kiss. "I love you baby." He kissed my stomach then climbed off the bed and ran out the room.

"He's so precious. I love him so much."

"I know you do babe. So, you said you were nine weeks. When did you find out, this must have been our first try." He lifted my shirt and rested his hands on my belly and circled his thumbs gently.

"I found out 5 weeks ago, so when I was only 4 weeks. I was sick so Karen came over. It was that day when we were in the bedroom and Karen was in the bathroom. I'd told her I was sick that morning so she came over with the test." I took the test out of the cupboard and held it in my hands. "And I came back positive." I handed it to Chris and he looked between the test and me. "I wanted to tell you so badly that day but I felt getting a doctors confirmation was a better idea, and I thought this would be a good way to surprise you." I kissed his cheek as he looked at the positive test. "Lin already knows about us leaving the show, your mom and all of my family know. That's why I had that argument with my dad. I told them I was pregnant and he got really mad at me. But everyone else has been so supportive. You need to give your official notice in. I'm starting in a looser club dress today to hide the slight bump but we are leaving the show May 27th."

"Firstly I love that you surprised me, it was absolutely perfect." He put the test in his lap and turned to face me. "Can we get all our family to come for that final show. Monica still hasn't seen it as she's been so busy and that would be the perfect day for her."

"Definitely. It's sad we have to leave, but as much as I love this show, I love our family so much more. I feel like our family is finally coming closer together because of this. I'm so happy babe, and I'm so in love."

"So am I princesa. I'm more in love with you than I thought was humanly possible. I love you more than anything." He took my neck and kissed me. They were small short kisses, but we kept going until Douglas came back in fully dressed. He climbed up into the bed and hugged us both tight.

"My perfect family." I kissed Doug's head and Chris's lips and smiled.
