Have you ever met someone you know you should leave well enough alone but ultimately don't and find out the hard way? Yep, that pretty much what happened with Becca and the brothers.
If people thought what they did to me at the start of senior year was terrible, it was nothing compared to what they did to her. The girls and I were walking across campus when we stopped. Our eyes widened with our jaws dropping.
There on the flagpole wasn't just a pair of underwear but someone in their underwear, namely Becca.
"Got to hand it to them, they're getting more creative," Kat remarked.
I looked at her then we ran over to them as people gathered around.
"Nash, what's going on?" I asked him.
"Well, since someone enjoys trying to cause trouble, we gave her a taste of her own medicine," he smirked.
"Get me down from here!" She screamed at them.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I give you Becca, who thinks she can try to break up a Gray brother and his girl even though she is dating a Gray boy. Irony at its best!" Nathan announced through a bullhorn. Where did he get a bullhorn?
Noah grabbed the bullhorn. "Now inspect her. That is who you want to stay away from!"
Then Nixon grabbed it, "Because when you mess with one, you mess with all."
"How's the air there, Becca?" Nolan yelled as everyone laughed.
"Nash, get her down," I demanded.
"Why? Because, according to her, you're faking everything," he snapped. I looked at him and everyone, including Becca. It stunned me. I was so stunned I didn't hear Cody walk up with his brothers.
"She did what?" We heard someone exclaim.
We all turned to see Cody seething.
"Funny thing, the girl you so admire so much, feels my girl is faking everything that happened to her and made it her quest to break us apart," Nash shot back at him.
I stood there, still stunned.
"You're lying!" Cody accused Nash.
"Cody, why would I lie? Think about it. What do I have to gain?" Nash gave Cody an incredulous look as the brothers looked on.
"Everything, Nash, this is even low for all of you," he said as he stormed past them and went over to lower Becca. We watched as he helped her down and looked at everyone. "There was no reason to humiliate her like this. You could have come to me privately. I guess a lack of respect is in the Gray quota. Come on, Becca." He led her away as I stood there.
They all watched then turned to me. "I don't understand what I did. I do make someone feel like I was faking. Because let me tell you, having a couple of years erased from you along with getting memories back here and there, is fantastic. Knowing that I can't remember anything and having people trying to tell me is so incredible. Oh, and the fact someone was trying to kill me because of some beef their relative had with me. I'm faking everything, right?"
I looked at everyone, then turned and walked away. I wondered if everyone felt this way? Because all it takes is one person to put a shred of doubt in people's minds. I needed to find some perspective. So, I saw someone who could give it to me.
The bell chimed to the bakery, and I looked around. A guy was cleaning up.
"Excuse me. Is Kate around?" I asked him.
He turned around and looked at me. He had dark hair with frosted tips and emerald green eyes.
"Nah, she left. She had some things to take care of."
