The months seem to have flown, and it was now November and around Thanksgiving. Nolan was home with Brook, and we were all getting ready for the holidays. I was getting so big, so Nash and I had to get creative with sex.
The bakery was doing well, now with the brothers taking charge, and Nixon was still working with another minister. He wanted to open his church one day. God helped us all when he did.
Nathan put his computer skills to work, making sure everything was online, and helping with the business aspect of the bakery while Noah managed everything. I had to admit; they were incredible with these things.
Nash took care of most of the baking and decorating as I helped but limited my movements. He did most of the work. Don't worry; he got pleasantly compensated at home.
Now with Thanksgiving around, we all gathered for dinner. Things were going well, and Macey was due any day now. We didn't imagine the babies deciding to join us for dinner.
As we all sat down to eat, Nixon said grace when Macey let out a scream. "Ah!"
"Hey, would you mind? I'm trying to say grace here," he huffed.
"Ah!" She screamed again.
"Seriously?" Nixon yelled at her.
Nathan looked at Macey. "Mace?"
Then it happened, her water broke.
"Nathan, the babies are coming!" She yelled as another contraction hit.
Our eyes widened as he yelled, "Shit!"
"Nathan language!" Pat yelled.
"We have no time for that, ma!" He stood up and helped Macey up. They quickly left out of the house, with all of us following behind. Here we go.
We all waited in the waiting room while Nathan and Macey were busy getting their twins delivered. Nash, Nixon, and Noah were trying to make us comfortable.
I had to sit on a seat that didn't have armrests so that I could fit. It was the same thing in the car. I had to sit in the back seat. I am carrying five babies made for needing more space.
It took a while, but finally, Nathan emerged.
"Well," Nate asked him.
"Want to meet the twins?" He asked us.
The boys helped us up, and we made our way to their room. Macey was holding one, and Nathan picked up the other.
"Meet Marshall and Murphy Gray," Nathan announced.
We all smiled. The babies were so cute. That made me even more excited to meet ours. We all had time to meet them. They were a mixture of Macey and Nathan.
In seeing the twins, something felt off.
"Nash?" I said as I felt a strange pain.
"Yes, baby girl?" He asked as he turned to look at me.
"Something doesn't feel right." I winced as I put my hand on my belly.
Everyone looked at me, and he walked over. "Come on, let's get you checked out."
He led me out of the room and helped me to see a nurse. Please, God, don't let the babies come yet. It's not time.
"God, I hope it's not the babies," Pat said as Nate wrapped his arms around her.
"I know, babe," he reassured her.
They called my doctor, and he came in to check me. After examining me, he decided I needed bed rest.
"This is normal for multiples. With five, it means things will become more difficult as your body is adjusting," the doctor explained to me.
"Are the babies okay?" Nash asked him. I looked at the doctor with equal concern.
"The babies are fine. They were moving and adjusting to the lack of room. What Maggie felt was her body stretch. Now I want you to go home and go to bed. As of now, you are on bed rest," he ordered me.
As much as I hated that thought, it also relieved me. I wanted the babies to be okay.
The doctor left, and Nash helped me get dressed. Then we left the room. It met us with anxious Grays.
"Well," Nate asked Nash.
"I got to take Mags home. She is now on bed rest for the duration of the pregnancy."
"What about the babies?" Pat asked him.
"They're fine, but she has to take it easy until they come, which means no work and no traveling," he explained to all of them.
They all looked at each other as Nash helped me to the car. That would be a long four months.
Once we got home, he helped me get changed and into bed, great.
From there, he brought a TV inside of the room along with anything else. Then he left. Where the hell did he go?
I sat there with my back against the bed. I rubbed my belly. "Okay, now I understand you five are ready to come, but I need you to wait a few more months. See, your daddy, and I want to make sure all of you are healthy. We need you to work with us. Can you do that?"
Kick!
"Good, now you be good little ones and behave," I told them.
Kick! Kick! Kick!
"That's not behaving," I said while rubbing my belly with my hand.
Thump! Thump! Thump!
"Listen, you five! Knock that shit off!" I yelled at them.
Then there was nothing.
"Is that how I need to handle you five?" I asked them curiously.
Kick!
"Well, this is great. Typical Gray children," I sighed.
Then I heard a chuckle. I looked to see Nash standing there with food.
"What's so funny?" I asked him curiously.
"The fact you have to yell at our kids in utero, and they listen," he chuckled.
"I blame your genes," I huffed.
"Well, I brought food," he said, walking over to me. I hurried over, and he took a seat, unwrapping a plate. He handed it to me along with a fork, then picked up another plate and unwrapped it.
We dug into the food. I was so hungry.
"Where did you get food?" I questioned him.
"I went over to ma and Dad's and made us a couple of plates then brought some extra home," he said as he took a bite.
"What about the others?" I asked.
"I already called ma. She said, don't worry about them that you needed feeding. Plus, I'm pretty sure they will stop by for food," he explained to me.
"I love ma," I said as I took a bite.
"Yep, and she loves you," he smirked.
We ate, and eventually, Nash took our plates down to the kitchen. He came back up to find me asleep. He crawled into bed and leaned down to my belly. "Hey, it's me, Daddy. I know, you five are impatient. That's the Gray gene coming out, but you have to wait, okay? We want to meet you as much as you want to meet us, but we also want you to be healthy. We love you so much."
He rubbed my belly as he felt a kick, then another and another, "Okay, settle down. Don't wake your mommy. She needs her rest. But I promise in due time, all of you will be here with us. You're our babies and our family. We need you as much as you need us. Plus, you're Grays. Remember that."
Kick!
Nash let out a soft chuckle as he snuggled up next to me, resting his hand on my belly. That was our family. One I yearned for most of my childhood. I just wanted people to love and care about me. It took the neighbors to show me what a family truly is, even though they are crazy.
